Support the Alda Center April 27

Support the Alan Alda Center for Communicating Science during Stony Brook University’s annual Giving Day April 27. Professional Development program

Donations will help the Center continue to refine and expand its program offerings to help scientists and researchers improve their communication and engagement skills through professional development and other efforts.

“The Alda Center’s communication experts have worked with more than 18,000 scientists since we opened our doors in 2019, and we are eager to continue sharing our method of research-based, experiential science communication programs,” said Laura Lindenfeld, executive director of the Alda Center and dean of the School of Communication and Journalism. “Our team is constantly innovating and updating our offerings, and donors make a meaningful difference as we help scientists learn to share the wonder and joy of science with others.”

In the past two years, the Alda Center has built a slate of professional development programs designed for online engagement; launched and recruited students to a new Master of Science in Science Communication, in collaboration with with the SoCJ; and designed and established The Link, a platform that connects science communication research to practice funded by The Kavli Foundation.

“Better communication has been a dream of mine for 25 years,” said Alan Alda, co-founder of the Alda Center. “It started with helping scientists communicate better and our efforts at Stony Brook and around the world have helped drive the growing understanding of how vital that communication can be to health and prosperity. Every year we’re at this – every month, every day – I see us getting closer to my dream. A fairer, more just, more rational world through better communication.”
