Nicholas Beckles

Biography

Nicholas is interested in reptile and amphibian brain development and the factors that shape it. In his free time, he enjoys cooking, reading self-development books, playing video games, and playing basketball. He entered the program without prior research experience and is excited to work with animals and build new connections.

Leading the Future:

Nicholas hopes to be a leader in raising concern for animal welfare and supporting conservation efforts that protect the environment.

Why did you become a Simons STEM Scholar?

Nicholas chose the Simons STEM Scholars Program because he believed it would connect him with valuable people, help him discover a passion for research, and strengthen his academic and personal discipline.

Research Experiences:

Summer 2024: Mystic Aquarium and the University of Connecticut with Dr. Zosia Baumann and Dr. Hannes Baumann, studying fish diversity in Mumford Cove.

Summer 2025: UConn Avery Point with Dr. Zofia Baumann, working on Imaging FlowCytobot counting efficiency.
