Biography

Leanne is studying cellular and molecular engineering, with a focus on fluidics. Outside class, they enjoy music, video games, journaling, and hair styling. Before joining the Simons STEM Scholars Program, Leanne participated in the Science and Technology Entry Program at Union College. They are especially excited to meet new people and begin research at Stony Brook.

Leading the Future:

Leanne hopes to help prevent the spread of infectious disease globally through vaccine development and tools that address antibiotic resistance.

Why did you become a Simons STEM Scholar?

Leanne became a Simons STEM Scholar to join a supportive community of students with similar interests, caring staff, and guidance toward a future Ph.D. path.

Research Experiences:

Summer 2024: University of Minnesota Twin Cities with Dr. David Wood, working on triple negative breast cancer in 3D microtissues.

Summer 2025: HHMI Janelia Research Campus with Dr. Kayvon Pedram, working on DNA nanostructures.
