• Core Facility Planning and Development: We assist colleges, departments, and researchers with planning new core facilities and shared research resources. This may include assessing demand, defining services and access models, identifying staffing and space requirements, developing governance structures, and planning for long-term sustainability.
• Operational Support: We help facilities strengthen day-to-day operations, including user access, scheduling, onboarding, training, communications, service workflows, and the implementation or improvement of research management platforms.
• Financial and Sustainability Planning: We support the development and review of user rates, operating budgets, maintenance plans, staffing models, equipment lifecycle strategies, and other approaches that promote the long-term sustainability of shared research resources.
• Shared Instrumentation and Infrastructure Strategy: We work with researchers and university leadership to identify institutional needs, evaluate opportunities for shared equipment, coordinate stakeholder input, and develop strategies for acquiring, locating, staffing, and supporting major research instrumentation.
• Facility Visibility and Researcher Access: We help researchers identify available equipment, services, and technical expertise across Stony Brook. We also work with facilities to improve their visibility through Research Connect, facility websites, booking platforms, and other institutional resources.
• Impact Assessment and Reporting: We help facilities track and communicate their impact through measures such as users served, departments supported, utilization, research outputs, grant activity, educational use, external engagement, and other institutional outcomes.
• Core Facility Reviews and Continuous Improvement: We assist facilities in evaluating operations, identifying service or capacity gaps, gathering user feedback, reviewing performance measures, and developing plans to improve access, efficiency, reliability, and service quality.
• Partnership and External Engagement Support: We help core facilities connect with university units, peer institutions, professional organizations, vendors, and external partners to share expertise, develop collaborations, and expand the reach and impact of Stony Brook’s research infrastructure.
