TUITION AND FEES, PAYMENTS & REFUNDS


Tuition and Fees

Tuition:
Tuition-Undergraduate: NY Resident: $181 per credit Out of State $442 per credit
Tuition-Graduate: NY Resident: $288 per credit Out of State $455 per credit
Tuition-MBA: NY Resident: $296 per credit Out of State $473 per credit
Tuition-Physical Therapy NY Resident: $455 per credit Out of State $731 per credit

Undergraduate Student Activity Fee: $5/session (Undergraduates Only)
Comprehensive Fee: $75/session, plus $.85/credit (College Fee)

A matriculated student is charged tuition at the rate of his or her program for all courses, in which he or she is enrolled, regardless of course level and regardless of whether any course is to be included in his or her degree program. This means that a student matriculated in a graduate program must pay for undergraduate courses at the graduate tuition rate.

The Undergraduate Student Activity Fee is used to help fund recreational and social activities for Winter Session students as well as for the ambulance corps and campus radio stations.

Comprehensive Fee supports the funding of the Student Health Services Center, as well as the transportation and technological costs of the campus. The Infirmary portion of the fee ($20) supports the medical and medical health services provided by the Student Health Services Center. The Transportation fee portion of this fee ($20) supports the campus bus service, which is free to all students, as well as the maintenance of the roads, parking lots, and the Motorist Assistance Program. The Technology Fee portion of this fee ($35) funds the operation of campus sites, including visiting winter session students. The College Fee portion of this fee ($.85 per credit ) is a mandatory fee established by the SUNY Board of Trustees.

All charges are estimated as of November 2007 and are subject to change without notice.The comprehensive fee is mandatory for all West Campus and HSC Winter Session students.
To request a refund of the student activity fee on the basis of financial need, employment, internship/clinical rotation, child care, or commuting submit a Student Activity Fee Refund Request Form to:

Payment Policies and Procedures

You can pay your winter session charges via SOLAR with a credit card or check, in person at the Bursar's Office in the Administration Building, or by mailing a check to Bursar, Stony Brook University, PO Box 619, Stony Brook, NY 11790-0619. Payment must be received by the appropriate deadline or you will de-registered from your course. If your check is returned by your bank, a $20 bank service charge will be imposed.

Note: your classes will be cancelled if you do not pay your winter tuition and fees after you enroll. No billing statements will be mailed to you; please see below for specific de-registration information

De-Registration Information and Payment Deadlines

FOR STUDENTS THAT ENROLL FOR A WINTER CLASS FOR THE FIRST TIME ON OR BEFORE THURSDAY DECEMBER 13 (3PM):

If you enroll for a winter session class on or before 3 pm, Thursday, December 13, you must pay your winter session tuition and fees IN FULL by 4pm Friday, December 14, or your enrollment in your winter intersession class will be cancelled.

After enrollment, you can pay using the SOLAR System with Visa, MasterCard, Discover or American Express; or in person at the Bursar’s Office with cash, check or credit card; or by mailing your check to: Stony Brook University, P.O. Box 619 , Stony Brook, New York 11790-0619 . If you choose to mail your payment, it must be received by the Bursar’s Office by Friday December 14 or your class enrollment will be cancelled.

If paying by SOLAR, use the option of PAY WINTER SESSION CHARGES to have your payment properly credit your winter session charges; otherwise, your payment may be applied to a different semester, and may jeopardize your winter enrollment.

FOR STUDENTS THAT ENROLL FOR A WINTER CLASS AFTER ON OR FRIDAY DECEMBER 14:

If you enroll for a winter session class on or after Friday, December 14, you must pay your winter session tuition and fees in full by the next business day or your enrollment in your winter intersession class will be “CANCELLED”.

After enrollment, you can pay using the SOLAR System with Visa, MasterCard, Discover or American Express or in person at the Bursar’s Office with cash, check or credit card. Payment must be received by the next business day or your class enrollment will be cancelled. If paying by SOLAR, use the option of PAY WINTER SESSION CHARGES to have your payment properly credit your winter session charges; otherwise, your payment may be applied to a different semester, and may jeopardize your winter enrollment.

There will be no SOLAR enrollment after December 28, 2007.

FOR STUDENTS WANT TO RE-ENROLL AFTER THEIR INITIAL WINTER ENROLLMENT WAS CANCELLED:

Students who have been de-registered for non-payment as of December 19th will be able to re-enroll in a class via SOLAR. Payment must be made by Friday, December 21 by 4 p.m.. If payment is not received your registration will be cancelled.

To RE-ENROLL in the Winter Session after December 21st :
1. Obtain and complete a Winter Class Re-Enrollment Form by clicking below or in person at at the Registrar’s or Bursar’s Office.

2. Pay in full Tuition and Fees, plus $20 Class Processing Fee at the Bursar’s Office.

3. In order to complete the re-enrollment process, you must bring the validated form ( Winter Class Re-Enrollment) to Registrar’s Office Tuesday, January 2, 2008 for processing.

Re-Enrollment Application

Late registration for winter session classes after this date will not be permitted, as per University Policy. This means that no winter enrollment forms will be accepted to add a Winter class after tuesday, January 2, 2008 (4pm).

There will be no exceptions to University policy nor deadline extensions for late enrollment.

Withdrawal Deadlines for Refunds

IF YOU DECIDE NOT TO ATTEND STONY BROOK UNIVERSITY FOR WINTER SESSION, IT IS YOUR OBLIGATION TO PROPERLY WITHDRAW THROUGH THE SOLAR SYSTEM OR THE REGISTRAR’S OFFICE. YOU ALSO MUST MEET THE TUITION WITHDRAWAL DEADLINES IN ORDER TO BE ELIGIBLE FOR A REFUND.

NON ATTENDANCE OF CLASSES DOES NOT CLASSIFY AS AN OFFICIAL WITHDRAWAL, AND DOES NOT ENTITLE THE STUDENT TO A REFUND.

The last day to withdraw from Winter Session 2008 classes with a full refund is Wednesday., January 3, 2008 .

Winter Session students who officially withdraw from the University after Wednesday, January 3, 2008 but before Saturday January 5, 2008, are eligible to receive a tuition refund of 35% according to the schedule below.

Winter Session students who officially withdraw from the University on or after Saturday, January 5, 2008 fully incur tuition and fees and are not eligible to receive a tuition refund.

REMEMBER that you, the student, are responsible for knowing that you are registered for classes, which classes you are registered for, and for understanding and following the correct procedures to withdraw from classes.

Refund Policies and Procedures

Students may have credit balances on their accounts as a result of charge adjustments or as a result of an overpayment. Because students sometimes prefer that a credit be applied to their account for the following spring semester, you must request a refund in writing.

If you have charged your payment, and your refund has been approved, your refund will be credited to your charge card. You must apply for a refund in writing within one year after the end of the session in which you were enrolled.

Refunds will not be made you owe a charge in any different semester.

If you have charged your payment, and your refund has been approved, your refund will be credited to your charge card. If your payment was by cash, money order or bank check, your refund will be processed within 2 days of receipt of the refund request by the Student Accounts Office.

If your payment was by credit card, your refund will be processed back to the credit card used to make the payment within 2 days of receipt of the refund request by the Student Accounts Office.

If your payment was by check, your refund will be processed no sooner than after 10 business days of the original payment by the Student Accounts Office.
