A matriculated student is charged tuition at the level of matriculation. For example, a matriculated graduate student enrolled in an undergraduate course will pay the graduate tuition rate.
Undergraduate Student Activity Fee: $5/session (Undergraduates Only)
Comprehensive Fee: $104.50/session, plus $.85/credit (College Fee)
The Undergraduate Student Activity Fee funds the recreational and social activities for Winter Session.

STUDENT HEALTH SERVICES FEE – ($22) The Student Health Services Fee fee funds the medical services performed by a staff of physicians, physician assistants, nurses, and nurse practitioners in the walk-in clinic and the Women’s Center. The fee covers in-house laboratory tests and some over-the-counter medications. The Student Health Service Building is the only location on campus where the infirmary fee can be used. The hours of operation are Monday through Friday from 8:00AM to 12:00PM and from 1:00PM to 5:00PM.
TECHNOLOGY FEE – ($45) The technology fee provides the necessary resources to maintain and improve information technology for students, including but not limited to the purchase and replacement of student computer workstations, Microsoft Office and Windows licenses for students, staffing for expanded SINC site operation, new public computer sites, technology improvements in the classroom, and the installation and maintenance of networks serving the residence halls.
TRANSPORTATION FEE – ($30) The transportation fee funds the free University Bus Service, which provides a variety of transportation options for the university community. Specifically, the University Bus Service operates eight weekday and eight weekend bus routes between a variety of destinations on East, West, and R&D campuses, as well as between some off-campus destinations. The fee covers expenses related to this service, as well as the costs associated with providing bus shelters; surface parking facilities, including resurfaced lots; additional parking spaces and improved lighting.
The College Fee portion of this fee ($.85 per credit ) is a mandatory fee established by the SUNY Board of Trustees.
Academic Excellence Fee: $7.50/session
Recreation Center Fee: $7.50 per unit (applicable to students not previously billed in Fall 2012)

Payment Policies and Procedures
You may pay your winter session charges via SOLAR with a credit card or check. Payment may also be made in person at the Bursar's Office in the Administration Building, or by mailing a check to Bursar, Stony Brook University, PO Box 619, Stony Brook, NY 11790-0619. Payment must be received by the appropriate deadline to avoid de-registration. If your check is returned by your bank, a $20 bank service charge will be imposed.
Note: Your enrollment will be cancelled for non-payment of winter tuition and fees charges. No billing statements will be generated. Please see specific de-registration information below:
De-Registration Information and Payment Deadlines
STUDENTS ENROLLED IN A WINTER CLASS ON OR BEFORE DECEMBER 6, 2012 |
If you enroll in a winter session course on or before Thursday, December 6, you must pay your winter session tuition and fees IN FULL by 4pm, December 7 or the enrollment will be cancelled.
After enrollment, you may pay using the SOLAR System with a credit card (Visa, MasterCard, Discover or American Express) or with an E-check. You may also pay at the Bursar’s Office with cash, check or credit card; or by mailing your check to: Stony Brook University, P.O. Box 619, Stony Brook, New York 11790-0619 . If you choose to mail your payment, it must be received by the Bursar’s Office by Friday December 9 or your class enrollment will be cancelled.
If paying by SOLAR, please use the option “ PAY WINTER SESSION CHARGES” to have your payment properly credit your winter session charges; otherwise, your payment may be applied to a different semester, and may jeopardize your winter enrollment.
IF YOU DECIDE NOT TO ATTEND STONY BROOK UNIVERSITY FOR WINTER SESSION, IT IS YOUR OBLIGATION TO PROPERLY WITHDRAW THROUGH THE SOLAR SYSTEM OR THE REGISTRAR’S OFFICE. YOU ALSO MUST MEET THE TUITION WITHDRAWAL DEADLINES IN ORDER TO BE ELIGIBLE FOR A REFUND. NON ATTENDANCE OF WILL NOT BE DEEMED AN OFFICIAL WITHDRAWAL, AND WILL NOT ENTITLE THE STUDENT TO A REFUND.
The last day to withdraw from Winter Session 2013 classes with a full refund is Wednesday, January 9, 2013 .
Winter Session students who officially withdraw from the University on Thursday, January 10, 2013 through Friday, January 11, 2013, are eligible to receive a tuition refund of 35% according to the schedule below.
Winter Session students who officially withdraw from the University on or after Saturday, January 12, 2012 will incur full tuition and fees liability (not eligible to receive a tuition refund).
If you enroll in a winter session class AFTER December 6, full payment is due the next day ; or the enrollment will be cancelled.
Students who have been de-registered for non-payment may be able to re-enroll via SOLAR; and payment will be due the next day.
Students not able to re-enroll via SOLAR will be required to complete the Re-Enrollment Application Form.

To RE-ENROLL in the Winter Session with the Re-enrollment Application :
1. Obtain and complete a Winter Class Re-Enrollment Form by clicking below or in person at the Registrar’s or Bursar’s Office. ( See link to form below):
2. Pay in full Tuition and Fees, plus $20 Re-enrollment fee at the Bursar’s Office.
3. The validated form must be presented to Registrar’s Office by Tuesday, January 8, 2013 (4PM) for processing.
No late registration will be permitted for Winter Session. All applications to enroll must be received by the University Registrar by Tuesday, January 8, 2013 (4PM).

If your payment was via a charge card, and your refund has been approved, your refund will be credited to your charge card within 2 business days of receipt of the request for refund.
If your payment was by check, your refund will be processed no sooner than after 10 business days of the original payment by the Student Accounts Office. You must apply for a refund in writing within one year after the end of the session in which you were enrolled.
