Richard T. Nasti is a summa cum laude graduate of Stony Brook University where he earned degrees in both economics and political science. Mr. Nasti is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania School of Law and was admitted to the practice of law in Second Judicial Department of New York State in 1983.
Mr. Nasti currently serves as Senior Vice President and General Counsel of H.J. Kalikow & Co., LLC, one of the oldest and most respected real estate development, construction, and management companies in New York City. Mr. Nasti has a breadth of experience in both the private and public sectors. In 1981, he was appointed chief counsel to United States Senator Alfonse D'Amato, where he was chiefly responsible for legislative initiatives. He went on to serve President Reagan in the capacity of Regional Administrator of the Urban Mass Transportation Administration, a region with a $1 billion annual budget encompassing New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, and the Virgin Islands. In 1987, Mr. Nasti joined the Kalikow organization and worked in several capacities before being elevated to his current position.
Mr. Nasti has served in several high-profile pro bono positions in government, including membership on the board of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority(MTA) in the early 1990's. He has also served on several governmental task forces studying various public policy issues.
Mr. Nasti was appointed by the Governor of New York State to chair of the Stony Brook University Council, the governing body of the University, in 1995, and remained chair for fifteen years. In this capacity, Mr. Nasti helped oversee Stony Brook's ascension into the highest ranks of major research universities in the nation. In 2009, he served as the chair of the presidential search committee that selected Stony Brook's 5th president. He currently serves on the Stony Brook Foundation, the philanthropic foundation established to assist Stony Brook University.
Mr. Nasti serves as Chairman of the Center for Italian Studies at Stony Brook University. In this capacity, he has led the Center's efforts in promoting scholarly research in Italian American Studies as well as disseminating Italian culture in one of the highest Italian American populations in the United States.
Mr. Nasti also served on the boards of both Iona College and the Iona Preparatory School.
Mr. Nasti is the recipient of numerous awards and honors, including the Ellis Island Medal of Freedom, the Stony Brook Distinguished Alumnus Award, the Iona Preparatory Blessed Edmund Rice Award for Distinguished Service, and the Dante Medal of the American Association of Teachers of Italian.
Mr. Nasti and his wife, Maura, live in New Rochelle, New York and have two children, Brian and Julia.
