Administrative Review More >>
Fall 2007:
- Develop a new process for administration of the University Senate Survey so that the responses are limited to eligible voters.
- Develop a new survey so that the number of questions is greatly reduced, yet still allowing some comparisons with previous surveys.
- Monitor University progress in responding to issues identified in the 2006 survey concerning the School of Social Welfare.
- Determine if there are additional issues identified in the 2006 survey that require follow-up with the University.
Spring 2008:
- Finalize the 2008 University Senate Survey material.
- Administer the 2008 University Senate Survey.
- Respond to issues identified in the 2006 University Seante Survey, if necessary.

Graduate Council More >>
- We are working with the provost and the graduate school to improve the competitiveness
of graduate student stipends and increase the number of TA lines
- We continue also to press for improvements in graduate student housing,
both in terms of quality and affordability.
- We have established an Ethics Task Force with members from across campus
to develop a plan for graduate student education in ethical practices.
This task force will determine needs and formulate a plan to deliver a
course across a wider range of graduate students.
- In conjunction with the graduate school, we have approved a plan for
a maternity leave program for graduate students, which has now been implemented.
- We will initiate a call to the Faculty Senate to consider how post-doctoral
fellows should be administered at Stony Brook. Currently, there is no
rational administrative system for handling post-docs.

Undergraduate Council More >>
- The undergraduate D.E.C. requirements are being reviewed, since it has
been several years since the last evaluation. We are currently in the
process of gathering information to quantify what impact the D.E.C. has
had on undergraduate education at Stony Brook for the past five years.
- The new majors and general educational requirements at Southhamption
are being discussed.
- We are working with the Graduate Council to improve the
English proficiency of the graduate TAs in the undergraduate classrooms
and laboratories.
- The requirements for an undergraduate to take credit overloads have
been simplified to help the student and university administration.
- The university tutoring services are being evaluated.
