- Introductions – G. Hanson - Introductions were made of all attendees.
- Review of the Minutes – A motion to approve minutes as amended. Fred approved and seconded by John
1. Environmental Master Plan – Amy Provenzano
- Nothing to report at this time.
2. East Campus Environment Committee – Catherine Horgan
- Catherine Horgan is the co- chair and acknowledged they will have their first meeting on February 10.
- There is an extensive list of items to bring up which may be in place.
- They will educate the folks on the east campus about what we do on the main campus.
- Presentation…input from all venues east campus.
- An invitation was extended to members of this committee collectively.
- Roy Steigbigel who is a faculty member was instrumental in this effort to get the east campus started.
- There is a need to minimize the redundancy of information conveyed from east to west.
- The Long Island States Veterans home has representation although Chapin Apartments does not which falls under a different set of rules of Residence Life. The Long Island High Tech Incubator is not included either.
2. Developments at the Research and Development Park – Amy Provenzano
- Nothing to report at this time.
3. Status of Hotel
- Nothing to report at this time.
4. Campus Sustainability Task Force/Recycling – Amy Provenzano
- This report was deferred to allow time for the GHG presentation.
5. Smoking Policy Sub-committee – Gil Hanson
- The proposed smoking policy discussed and agreed upon at last month’s meeting was presented to Bernie Lane. It was approved by Bernie.
- The proposal was also shared with the GSO.
- Amy to work with labor relations with the unions to get the 25’distance policy Approved by them as well.
- A question arose to what other SUNY campuses is smoke free. SUNY Buffalo and Albany may be the first for the State University.
- A request was made for a copy of the article from the American Lung Association for the minutes
6. Greenhouse Gas Inventory – Amy Provenzano
- Dr. Kenny signed the ACUPCC on September 15, 2007 - AASHE.ORG
- The first milestone within this commitment was the implementation of 2 of the short term goals. SBY chose to implement the LEED certification and participation in Recyclemania goals.
- Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE) information is available online that addresses green house gas inventory. http://www.aashe.org/
- Per the commitment, this inventory encompasses anthropogenic sources only.
- Information from FY 02/03 is our starting inventory.
- There are an estimated 320 thousand tons per year of emissions from campus
- Other university’s inventories are available on the AASHE website.
7. University Safety Committee – Mary Hotaling
- Nothing to report at this time.
8. Parking and Transportation Subcommittee – Paul Siegel
- Nothing to report at this time.
9. Friends of Ashley Schiff
- Nothing to report at this time.
