Favorite spot on campus? Why?
I love going to the Tabler Center for Arts, Culture, and Humanities (TAC) to study or hang with friends. The TAC has a computer lab, piano practice rooms, and Dunkin’ Donuts for when you need a study break.

What clubs/organizations do you belong to?
I am an undergraduate college fellow for the Undergraduate College Science and Society and an international student ambassador.

What would you tell prospective students about Stony Brook?
Get involved and don’t be afraid to try new things. Along the way you will make friendships that will last you a lifetime.

Favorite nearby off campus spot?
Port Jefferson Village is a great spot that is not far by LIRR. There are small shops and restaurants, and you can sit near the docks to watch the sun set!

Most memorable moment on campus?
For me, the most memorable moment on campus was attending the masquerade ball hosted by the Phi Delta Epsilon Medical Fraternity in the Student Activities Center ballroom. It was a fun night with my roommates and friends.

What is your dream job?
My dream job is to be a doctor who specializes in medical diagnosis. I hope to help people by diagnosing their disease and helping them through their recovery process.

What would you tell prospective students about Stony Brook?
I would tell prospective students about the fun times I’ve had at Stony Brook football and basketball games, about the many opportunities for research, and our new Campus Recreation center. I would also advise them to be involved in campus life, to choose a major they have interest in, and to have fun!

Favorite Stony Brook tradition?
My favorite Stony Brook tradition so far is Roth Regatta, where students construct boats out of cardboard and duct tape, and race them across Roth Pond. Although I haven’t participated, it is always fun to watch!

What would you tell prospective students about Stony Brook?
Stony Brook may be a large campus, but that is nothing to be afraid of. There are numerous options to get involved here at Stony Brook and make friends and feel connected. I never felt lonely or lost. Stony Brook is simply the best experience I’ve had so far!

Most memorable moment on campus?
At Stony Brook University, one day there was a carnival with a bunch of fun activities to do. In particular, there was an inflatable obstacle course. We had to climb a wall, run through tubes, and slide down the final slide. My friend and I competed with each other on who would finish first. I felt so victorious!

Favorite Stony Brook tradition?
I love Roth Regatta so much! It’s a very exciting event where different clubs or organizations make boats out of cardboard and compete with each other across Roth Pond. I like how everyone gathers in one spot and they have fun and laugh together.

Favorite spot on campus?
My favorite spot on campus is the library. There are just tons of places where I can just sit, relax, or study. If I want any kind of atmosphere—quiet or busy—I can find it there. And at night, you can sit inside and see the sky above through the ceiling.

Most memorable moment on campus?
My first homecoming game had to be my most memorable experience on campus.  I attended a high school that had no sports and no school spirit.   Seeing the whole football stadium packed and cheering on our amazing team was extremely exciting.   It was my first ever live football game and I’ve been attending all the home games ever since.

When prospective students and their families take a tour with you, you would like them to walk away with what type of feeling or thought?
I want them to have the fullest understanding of what a wonderful institution Stony Brook University really is.  I want them to feel a spark of interest in further looking into Stony Brook as an option for themselves/their child.

Favorite Stony Brook tradition?
The Roth Regatta! It’s amazing to see what students can do with just paint, duct tape, and cardboard.  It is also thrilling to stand by and watch each group of boats take on the pond, especially when you see a boat from your building, or one of your friends in a boat.

Favorite nearby off campus spot?
Port Jefferson village is my favorite off campus spot.  When the weather is nice you could spend all day by the docks and down the streets in the vintage shops.  It is a beautiful and relaxing place that’s only a few minutes away when you take the LIRR.

axelName: Axel
High School: Xaverian High School
Academic Year: Junior
Major(s)/Minor(s): Psychology

Favorite spot on campus? Why?
My favorite spot on campus is the garden behind the Geometry Building/Simons Center. When walking to the garden, you can catch a view of the Simons Center which, in my opinion, is the most beautiful building on campus. With a lit up stairway and waterfall, the building is definitely a sight to see.  The garden, however, is very secluded and less well-known. I like to walk there late at night, either with my friends or by myself, and just relax, chill, and stargaze. It really is a hidden gem on campus.

What is your dream job?
My dream job is to work as a psychologist that specializes in therapy for adolescents. I feel like human beings are most impressionable during their adolescent years, and it is my goal to guide and help people who are going through trauma and other difficulties during that time period. The influences we let in and the mindsets that we develop during that time period can have repercussions that will affect our adult lives, so it is my intention to make sure that those influences and mindsets that get developed are positive and productive.

Favorite Stony Brook tradition?
My favorite Stony Brook tradition is the midnight scream. Every night during Finals Week, most students get together, run outside, and just scream out their frustrations and stress for a few moments. At first, it can seem very weird and ridiculous, but it is moments like those that keep us students sane during the most stressful week of every semester. The sheer ridiculousness of the act, as well as the physical release of screaming out in frustration, gives us the boost we need to keep studying and work hard.

Favorite nearby off campus spot?
My favorite nearby off campus spot is the restaurant "Soup's On", which is about a 5 minute walk from H Quad, across the street from the LIRR station. It is extremely refreshing to get off campus every now and then to have a meal. Even though the restaurant is only across the street from campus, it feels like a completely different environment.

Favorite place to grab a bite to eat on campus?
My favorite place to grab a bite to eat on campus is a tie between the Student Activities Center, because of its large variety of options, and the Wang Center, because of the exotic foods and peaceful environment.

When prospective students and their families take a tour with you, you would like them to walk away with what type of feeling or thought?
I would like prospective students and their families to walk away with a good impression of the school. I want them to walk away saying, “Yes, this is the school I want to go to!” I want them to know what Stony Brook has to offer, not only in opportunities for receiving a valuable education, but also in opportunities for participating in extra-curricular activities!

Favorite Stony Brook tradition?
As a new transfer student, I look forward to being part of all the traditions that Stony Brook has to offer! After I graduate from SBU I hope to be a role model for children. I want to also be able to give back to the community.

Favorite spot on campus? Why?
I love to go to the Health Sciences Center, or HSC. The library is a great place to study because it is a quiet, focused environment where I can get work done. I enjoy being surrounded by some of the brightest minds in the country while studying because it really inspires me to give the work my all. Also, the food options are great—the Skyline Deli, the Cafeteria, and a Starbucks in the Hospital are all delicious.

What clubs/organizations do you belong to?
I am part of NRHH, or the National Residence Hall Honorary, the Stony Brook Premed Society Outreach committee, and am also the President of Langmuir College’s Hall Council.

Favorite place to grab a bite to eat on campus?
Roth always takes the cake. Between Wendy’s and CPK, I can get something to eat there for lunch or dinner, and in any mood. They seem to always have what I’m looking for, even when I have no clue what food I’m in the mood for.

When prospective students and their families take a tour with you, you would like them to walk away with what type of feeling or thought?
I would like them to walk away with a feeling of understanding as to what our school has to offer. academically, socially, athletically, and our level of leadership and continued devotion to community service and improving our world are all fantastic things about this school, but I want them to be able to see it for themselves and believe rather than simply being told that’s the way it is.

I also want to take part in a health care organization so I can provide support to local leaders in developing better health care policies.

Favorite Stony Brook tradition?
My favorite Stony Brook traditions are in the Spring semester – Strawberry Fest and Earthstock. In Strawberry Fest, I enjoy the variety of meals provided for less than 10 meal points. In Earthstock, I always enjoy learning more about new ways to be 'green' or environmentally friendly. I also like how the different booths and tables give out free samples of organic products.

Most memorable moment on campus?
My most memorable moment on campus is Asia Night 2011, held by the Asian Students Alliance. It was the first time I ever participated in a cultural show as a college student. I was filled with tons of adrenaline as I got up on stage. I was a bit nervous at first since the auditorium was packed and the tickets sold out right away, but I eventually ended up having fun in front of everyone.

Most memorable moment on campus?
My most memorable moment on campus was the Women in Science & Engineering (WISE) scavenger hunt. We had so much fun running around campus, asking random people for directions, and bonding with my WISE mentoring group. I enjoyed the adventure and the people.

What would you tell prospective students about Stony Brook?
Do not be afraid to explore the different fields of study we have here because what you come into Stony Brook hoping to do, will not always be the same as what you leave Stony Brook with. There are so many new things you can learn in a University this big, and it would be a waste to not learn as much as you can

What is your dream job?
My dream job would be to work for the Travel Channel, or the Food Channel, because I’d figure that would be anyone’s dream job. I love to travel and intend on doing so for the rest of my life and I love eating all types of food. But I also love science and doing service, and at the moment I am on the physician assistant track, which will hopefully give me qualifications to make the world a better place, as cheesy as that sounds, but its true.

When prospective students and their families take a tour with you, you would like them to walk away with what type of feeling or thought?
I would like everyone to feel well informed and excited about Stony Brook and all that we offer. I hope that students leave feeling excited about college in general and are open minded to all the possibilities that lay in the future.

wen naName: Wen Na

Favorite spot on campus? Why?
During the warmer days of the school year, I like to sit by the water fountain outside of the Wang Center. It is my goto place for when I want to relax and have some alone time. The rush of the water as it flows from the fountain, helps alleviate the stress that have built up from the workload of my classes. It is the place I escape to for comfort.

What clubs/ organizations do I belong to?
Although I attend many of the general body meetings of clubs such as the Chinese Association at Stony Brook and the Japanese Student Organization, I am mostly faithful to Asian Student Alliance, an organization of which I am a Freshman Representative for. Favorite place to grab a bite on campus?
Roth Cafe has always been the popular hangout spot for my friends and I. During dinner, we would sit for hours talking about our lives, catching up on homework assignments and grabbing frozen yogurt from Red Mango before parting our ways back to our dorms.
