Take the Long Island Expressway (LIE, I-495) to exit 62, and follow Nicolls Road (Route 97) north for 9 miles. The main entrance to the University is on the left. Please enter through the Main Entrance (not the South Entrance) on the West side of campus. The sign on Nicholls Road says:

Visitor parking is available in the Parking Garage adjacent to the Administration Building. After turning into the University at the main entrance, continue straight until you see the entrance to the Parking Garage on the left. There is no charge for weekend parking. Monday through Friday, parking rates are $1.50 per hour to a $7.50 maximum per 24 hours. Click here for a campus parking map.

Car ferries cross Long Island Sound at Bridgeport, Connecticut to Port Jefferson, Long Island Take Route 25A west to Nicolls Road, and turn left on Nicolls. The University entrances are the first three intersections you come to. From New London, Connecticut to Orient Point, Long Island Take Route 25A west to Nicolls Road and proceed south to the second traffic light. The main entrance to the University on the right.

Take the Long Island Railroad's Port Jefferson line from Penn Station in Manhattan to Stony Brook. The LIRR station is at the north end of the campus; bus service to the central campus is provided. Trains to and from Penn generally require transfers at Jamaica or Huntington. Here is the schedule to Stony Brook.

Long Island's Islip-MacArthur Airport is 16 miles from the campus and is serviced by direct flights by major airlines and commuter lines. New York City Area Airports (JFK, LaGuardia and Newark) are 50-70 miles to the west.

All airports offer limousine and taxi services to campus. Land at Long Island MacArthur Airport - ISP (631-467-3210), 16 miles south of campus, or LaGuardia Airport - LGA, 50 miles west of campus. Or, land at Kennedy International Airport -JFK and take the AIRTrain to the Long Island Rail Road's Jamaica station. Take the Port Jefferson Line from Jamaica to Stony Brook. Driving directions to Stony Brook University from Islip-MacArthur Airport: exit the airport via Johnson Avenue. Turn left onto Veterans Memorial Highway (Route 454 East). Take Veteran's Memorial Highway east to Sunrise Highway (Route 27 east). Stay in the right lane and take the Nicolls Road north exit and continue north on Nicolls Road for approximately 12 miles. The main entrance to the University is on the left.
