Get Connected! Computing and Technology
Google Apps for Education
Stony Brook uses Google Apps for Education as its main communications and collaboration platform for email, calendar, shared documents, spreadsheets, presentations, instant messaging, and more. The benefits of using a Google Apps for Education account through Stony Brook rather than a personal Gmail account include a larger mail quota (25 GB), an integrated campus directory, the ability to use an @stonybrook.edu email address on resumes and job applications, and no advertisements in email.
Computer & Software Discounts
All registered Stony Brook University students have the opportunity to purchase Dell, Apple, HP, or Lenovo computers at discounted, educational prices. Students are also offered Symantec AntiVirus and Microsoft Office at no additional charge (costs are included in the technology fee). For more information, visit the Division of Information Technology Web site.
Residence Hall Technology
Our Residence Halls and apartments are continually being updated and outfitted with the latest in technology and innovation. All rooms offer high-speed Internet access (both wired and wireless). Each quad also has its own state-of-the-art computing center, open seven days a week, offering daytime and late-night hours for residents. Centers are staffed by knowledgeable students who can provide training and assistance. For more information, please visit the Division of Campus Residences Web site.
