The Staller Center
The Staller Center offers a wealth of professional performances by popular artists from around the world, showcasing programs that include jazz, modern dance, ballet, opera, theatre, classical music and more. In addition, it hosts the Stony Brook Film Festival each summer. The Staller Center is the premiere showplace for all the arts!

The Staller Center's "First On Us" Program
All new students can receive a free ticket to a performance of their choice at the Staller Center and experience the excitement of a live show. Students can also opt for a free movie ticket to one of the many fine films screened at Staller Center. Support for “First on Us” is made possible by The Barbara N. Wien Endowment for Arts and Education.

Opportunities to Perform
Even if you are not majoring in a performing arts discipline, we offer our students many opportunities to perform in the arts. Play a musical instrument? Each semester our University Orchestra, Wind Ensemble, Jazz Ensemble, Choral Ensembles, and Chamber Music groups hold open auditions. Have acting experience? Take part in one of our theatrical productions!

Show Off Your Artistic Skills!
Stony Brook students have opportunities to participate in artistic festivals held on our campus throughout the year. The Shirley Strum Kenny Student Arts Festival, held in the Spring, showcases the diversity of our students through their creative endeavors. As part of its annual Celebration of Undergraduate Research & Creativity, our Office of Undergraduate Research & Creative Activities (URECA) sponsors an Undergraduate Art Exhibition and an Undergraduate Music Celebration. The University Art Gallery, Online Art Gallery, and the Student Activities Center Art Gallery provide forums for students with talents in the visual arts to showcase their works.

Study with World-Class Performers!
One of the world’s foremost chamber ensembles and winner of seven Grammy Awards, the Emerson String Quartet has been in residence at Stony Brook since 2002. The Quartet joined Stony Brook's Music Department to coach in the chamber music program, give master classes, and provide instrumental instruction to Stony Brook students. They also perform several concerts during the year at the Staller Center, to the delight of our students, faculty, and community.

Research the Arts
Stony Brook offers many courses that examine the historical, sociological, and cultural implications of the arts. Take a course in our Art Department on Electronic Media, or a course in our Music Department on the History of Jazz, or a course in our Theatre Department on European Theatre and Drama!
