The Office of Commuter Student Services offers valuable services, programs, advocacy, and outreach on behalf of commuter students. And, in collaboration with various campus constituencies, the Office of Commuter Student Services actively aids and encourages commuter students to become full participants in campus life.
The Office of Commuter Student Services is located in Suite 222 of the Student Activities Center.


lirrLong Island Rail Road
A Long Island Railroad Station right on campus puts Stony Brook within easy reach from New York City and other points on Long Island. Take the Long Island Railroad's Port Jefferson line from Penn Station in Manhattan to Stony Brook. The LIRR station is at the north end of the campus; bus service to the central campus is provided. Trains to and from Penn Station generally require transfers at Jamaica or Huntington. Hicksville is also a transfer point on some lines. Click here for a Stony Brook train schedule.

busWe'll Give You Door-to-Door Service
Parking for commuters is abundant and easily accessible, with free bus service to all buildings on campus. Bus service operates from 7:30 a.m. through 10:30 p.m. throughout the entire campus. To park on campus, you need to get a parking permit for your vehicle. All commuters are eligible to obtain parking permits. As a commuter, you’ll find it reassuring to know that, if you experience a problem with your car, help is just a phone call away. Parking Services offers motorist assistance for common problems such as battery jumps, locked-in keys, empty gas tanks, and slow leaks.
