Scholarships for Entering Freshmen

For the fullest consideration of scholarship support for fall semester enrollment based upon academic merit, freshmen must have a complete admissions application on file in the Office of Undergraduate Admissions by December 1st. Freshmen are also encouraged to submit the Online Supplemental Application by December 31st. If you have demonstrated financial need, any offered scholarship will be part of the whole financial aid package up to the cost of budgeted cost of attendance. Scholarship notification begins in late-March.

Athletic Grants-in-Aid	Stony Brook Seawolves compete in NCAA Division I in all sports! Support for scholar-athletes has increased dramatically.	For further information, contact the coach of the sport in which you would like to participate.
College of Engineering and Applied Sciences	There are several scholarships awarded to new students in the College of Engineering and Applied Sciences. These are based upon the demonstration of high academic achievement in high school. The amounts and continuation of these scholarships are determined by a selection committee of the College. Direct admission to the College is highly selective. For more details, visit to the CEAS Website.	To apply, submit your Application for Admission to the University by December 1st and the Online Supplemental Application by December 31st. No additional application is required for scholarships.
CSEA Scholarship	CSEA Local 614 is pleased to announce the newly developed Scholarship Award Fund. Call the Union Office at 632-6575 or 444-3680 for more details.	Applications are available on the CSEA website. The deadline to submit applications is September 6.
CSEMS - Computer Science, Engineering, and Mathematics Scholarship Program	The Stony Brook Computer Science, Engineering, and Mathematics Scholarship (CSEMS) program is sponsored by the National Science Foundation. The program is administered by the Department of Technology and Society in Stony Brook’s College of Engineering and Applied Sciences. The program will provide a comprehensive support and scholarship program for associates and bachelors degree candidates at Nassau and Suffolk County Community Colleges and Stony Brook University. Applicants for CSEMS must have a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form on file with their campus’ office of financial aid.

Empire State Diversity Honors Scholarship	The Empire State Diversity Honors Scholarship (ESDHS) Program is a scholarship of direct aid to attract and retain undergraduate students to State University of New York (University) campuses who have demonstrated high academic achievement and can demonstrate that they will contribute to the diversity of the student body. The program is for students from a broad range of backgrounds who will contribute to the diversity of the student body in their chosen program or school.	Eligible students must be enrolled in a degree program and have demonstrated high academic achievement. They must also be currently receiving a 4 year Stony Brook University merit based scholarship. Recipients are not required to demonstrate financial need. However, to determine eligibility for other state and federal financial aid, all recipients are asked to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Participants must be: (a) U.S. citizens or permanent resident aliens and (b) New York State residents, who will make a contribution to the diversity of the student body in their program or school, primarily by demonstrating that they have overcome a disadvantage or other impediment to success in higher education. Even though financial need is not a requirement for program eligibility, applicants may utilize economic disadvantage as a basis for eligibility. Membership in a racial/ethnic group that is underrepresented in the program or school for which the student is applying may serve as a plus factor in making awards, but may not form the sole basis of such an award and every student applicant shall be evaluated on his or her own merits. Freshman Presidential and Provost's Out-of-State Scholarships	Students who are currently seniors in high school with at least 90 unweighted high school average or equivalent and 1300 SAT score or 29 ACT composite score are automatically considered for Presidential Scholarships for NYS residents and Provost's Scholarships for out-of-state residents. High school academic program, SAT/ACT scores, co-curricular activities, research experiences, or special talents or skills may also be taken into account. Scholarships vary based on academic qualifications and residency status.	For the fullest consideration for all available scholarships we strongly encourage you to submit your Application for Admission to the University by December 1st and the Online Supplemental Application by December 31st.
Linda and Richard Gelfond Scholarship	This one-year scholarship (minimum $2,000) was established to recognize incoming first-year students of outstanding academic ability and exceptional leadership skills. A maximum of three scholarships will be awarded for incoming fall freshmen. Continuation of the scholarship is based upon additional application and selection in subsequent years. Freshmen applicants must have at least a 92 unweighted high school average and cumulative SAT score of 1250+ or ACT score of 28+. The selected students will have an outstanding academic record and have demonstrated leadership accomplishments before matriculating as a full time student at Stony Brook University. Bryan A. Griesbeck Memorial Scholarship	For an incoming freshman student from a Sachem High School who has a solid academic record, but has not already been offered a scholarship from Stony Brook University. Must have demonstrated financial need per FAFSA submission.	No application is necessary.

Honors College	Honors College scholarships are awarded on the basis of outstanding academic achievement (e.g., high school or prior college grade point average, SAT or ACT scores, leadership, participation in extra-curricular activities and/or honors programs). Every admitted Honors College student will receive some level of scholarship support. Continuation of the scholarship is contingent upon meeting the Honors College criteria. INTEL Science Talent Search National Finalists and Semifinalists	Any current year Finalist or Semifinalist in the INTEL Science Talent Search who is eligible for admission to Stony Brook University as a freshman for the following fall semester will be considered for scholarship support ranging from $2000 to full scholarship support (tuition, University comprehensive fee, room and board) based upon high school academic achievement and standardized test scores.	To apply, submit your Application for Admission to the University by December 1st and the Online Supplemental Application by December 31st.
William and Jane Knapp Alumni Scholarship	The number of scholarships and duration is determined by the funds available in the endowment account. High achieving incoming freshmen with demonstrated financial need (based on FAFSA submission) with at least one parent who graduated from Stony Brook University will be considered. The scholarship is approximately $3,400.	To apply, submit your Application for Admission to the University by December 1st and the Online Supplemental Application by December 31st. No additional application is required.

LSAMP - Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation	This program is supported by the National Science Foundation (NSF) and is designed to encourage students from under-represented minority groups to pursue studies in science, mathematics, and engineering disciplines. NSF guidelines define an under-represented minority as being of African-American, Latino-Hispanic, Native American, Alaskan Native, Hawaiian Native, or Native Pacific Islander heritage. Stipends, if available, are based upon a student’s continuing eligibility in the program and maintaining a 3.00 cumulative grade point average. Students must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident. Music Department Competitive scholarships	The Department of Music in the College of Arts and Sciences offers a limited number of competitive scholarships. Students may compete for scholarships in performance, composition, history, or theory. National Merit Scholars	Any current year National Merit Scholar Finalist or Semifinalist who is eligible for admission to Stony Brook University as a freshman for the following fall semester will be considered for scholarship support ranging from $2000 to full scholarship support (tuition, University comprehensive fee, room and board) based upon high school academic achievement and standardized test scores.	To apply, submit your Application for Admission to the University by December 1st and the Online Supplemental Application by December 31st. Proof of Finalist status will be required.

Regents Professional Opportunity Scholarship	The purpose of the Regents Professional Opportunity Scholarship is to increase representation of minority and disadvantaged individuals in New York State licensed professions. S-STEM - Scholarships for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics	The Stony Brook University Scholarships for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (S-STEM) program is sponsored by the National Science Foundation. The program is administered by the Department of Technology and Society in Stony Brook’s College of Engineering and Applied Sciences. Click this link to learn more about the program. Applicants for S-STEM must have a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form on file with the Stony Brook University Office of Financial Aid.
Valedictorian and Salutatorian Scholarships	Valedictorians and Salutatorians graduating in Spring of the current year will be considered for generous scholarship support upon admission and enrollment at Stony Brook for the following Fall semester. You must apply and be admitted to the University for the Fall semester following your graduation in the Spring and official documentation from your high school must be submitted confirming this status.	To apply, submit your Application for Admission to the University by December 1st and the Online Supplemental Application by December 31st. No additional application is required. Official High School confirmation of status is required by June 1st. This should be sent to the Office of Student Financial Aid Services at Stony Brook University.
WISE - Women In Science and Engineering	All students accepted into WISE will receive some level of scholarship support for one to four years. Applicants must have a demonstrated aptitude or interest in science, math or engineering, as evidenced by four years of math or science courses in high school, excellent grades, a minimum score of 600 on the quantitative SAT (or an ACT score of at least 27), research or other relevant experience or pertinent extracurricular activities. World Trade Center Memorial Scholarship	The World Trade Center Memorial Scholarship guarantees access to a college education for survivors, their families, financial dependents of innocent victims, and those who were severely and/or permanently disabled as a result of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on the United States of America, or rescue and recovery efforts. This includes victims at the World Trade Center site, Pentagon or on flights 11, 77, 93, or 175.
