Scholars for Medicine

Stony Brook's Scholars for Medicine Program is an integrated eight-year Bachelor's/M.D. course of study offered to exceptional high school students. While completing their undergraduate studies, students participate in medical school classes and activities.

This program is only for those applying for fall freshman admission.

To be considered for admission to the Scholars for Medicine program, you must:

  • Have a minimum GPA of 95 (or 3.8), and a combined SAT Math and Critical Reading score of 1350 or higher. (Applicants are strongly advised to provide SAT scores instead of ACT scores when applying for the Scholars for Medicine Program.)

  • Have documentation of U.S. citizenship or permanent residency in the United States

  • Apply for admission to Stony Brook University as a freshman for the fall semester by December 1, and submit all supporting documentation, including high school transcript, SAT/ACT scores, two Teacher Evaluationspdf, and the Supplemental Application (including essays) by December 31.

  • Be admitted to the Honors College or WISE Program.

Applicants to Scholars for Medicine are notified in March whether they have been admitted to the Honors College or WISE and, if so, whether or not they have been recommended for review by the School of Medicine at Stony Brook University. If recommended for review by the School of Medicine, they will be notified within a couple of weeks whether or not they will be offered an interview. Final decisions are usually made prior to April 1.

Students accepted into the Scholars for Medicine Program are guaranteed a seat in the School of Medicine at Stony Brook University upon graduation provided they:

  • Complete their Honors College or WISE Program of study

  • Complete all required pre-medical courses

  • Maintain a minimum 3.4 GPA

  • Successfully complete the MCAT with an above average score
