Dr. Jim Simons, prominent financier, mathematician, and former chairperson of Stony Brook’s Mathematics Department, and his wife Marilyn, who holds a Ph.D. in economics from SB, recently donated $60 million to Stony Brook – the largest gift in University history. The gift will be used to construct and then endow the “Simons Center for Geometry and Physics” on Stony Brook’s campus.   Stony Brook University has announced a $20 million renovation and expansion of Stony Brook University Arena, which opened in 1990 at a cost of $17 million.
