| Dr. Jim Simons, prominent financier, mathematician, and former chairperson of Stony Brook’s Mathematics Department, and his wife Marilyn, who holds a Ph.D. in economics from SB, recently donated $60 million to Stony Brook – the largest gift in University history. The gift will be used to construct and then endow the “Simons Center for Geometry and Physics” on Stony Brook’s campus. |

Stony Brook University has announced a $20 million renovation and expansion of Stony Brook University Arena, which opened in 1990 at a cost of $17 million. |

| The Center for Excellence in Wireless and Information Technology (CEWIT) is a 100,000 square foot building funded with $50 million from the Empire State Development Corporation. CEWIT has state-of-the-art laboratories for research into wireless and IT technologies, flexible incubator space for the use of private industry and substantial computing support space. |

In August 2008, All-Star closer for the Minnesota Twins and former Seawolves baseball standout, Joe Nathan (BS '97), made a gift of $500,000 to the Department of Athletics in support of the construction of a new baseball field at Stony Brook University, which will be named "Joe Nathan Field." |

| Our $37.5 million 85,000 square-foot Campus Recreation Center will feature contemporary work out space, space for a quality intramural program and for sports club team practice and competition. The state-of-the-art center is slated for completion in 2011. |
