MAJOR: Marine Vertebrate Biology
HOMETOWN: Silver Spring, Maryland
“I want to specialize in birds and marine life. I’ve wanted to be a veterinarian for as long as I can remember. But now that I’ve taken a lot of marine vertebrate bio classes, I’m rethinking the vet idea. I might want to do something more related to conservation or ecology.”
FAVORITE INTERNSHIPS: Whooping crane rehabilitation program at the Wildlife Research Center in Laurel, Maryland, and aviculture intern at the National Aquarium in Baltimore
FAVORITE PROFESSOR: Lesley Thorne, School of Marine and Atmospheric Sciences
“She taught the Marine Mammals and
Sea Turtles class. She got people talking
in groups,
which is really helpful in learning the
material. Sometimes she brought in guest speakers,
like the one who talked about penguins. We also
got to watch a seal necropsy.”
FAVORITE SPOT ON CAMPUS: Tabler Center
“There’s a SINC site, and you
can go downstairs and study, and there’s a Dunkin’ Donuts.
It’s a nice place to hang out with friends.”
