Financial Assistance & Scholarship Information
The Office of Financial Aid and Scholarship Services provides assistance to undergraduates in the form of federal and state programs that provide grants, loans, and work-study to assist eligible students in pursuing their academic goals. To apply for financial aid, students must complete the federal government's Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), which is used by Stony Brook to determine each student's expected family contribution and financial aid eligibility. Stony Brook's FAFSA Code is 002838.

New York State residents* are also encouraged to apply for the Tuition Assistance Program (TAP). If you file a FAFSA electronically and indicate that you are a New York State resident, you will be able to link to your online TAP application at the end of the FAFSA session. If you filed a paper FAFSA, you can apply for TAP directly on the New York State Higher Education Services Corporation (HESC) TAP Application Website. In addition, the University offers merit-based scholarships and athletic grants-in-aid to outstanding applicants.
