How to Apply for a Second Bachelor's Degree

Students who previously earned a bachelor's degree, either at Stony Brook or another institution, may be eligible for the Second Bachelor's Degree Program. A second bachelor's degree may only be earned in a significantly different discipline.

Students accepted to the Program must earn at least 36 credits in residence at Stony Brook, including completion of a new major and selected general education requirements.

Second bachelor degree applicants file an application with the Office of Undergraduate Admissions and submit an official transcript indicating previous degree earned. Applicants are required to have performed well in a strong academic program. Evidence of both the academic ability to succeed and the commitment to complete the program will be weighed heavily.

Note: Second bachelor degree applicants for Respiratory Care, Athletic Training, Cytotechnology, Clinical Laboratory Sciences, Occupational Therapy, Health Science, Social Work, or Nursing should contact the Health Sciences Center for application procedures.
