Did you know that Stony Brook is ranked in the Top 1% of universities worldwide by the London Times Higher Education? We’re also listed among the 100 best national universities and the 50 best public universities by U.S. News & World Report and are included in their list of “Best Colleges: Least Debt” for national universities. All of that translates to abundant educational opportunities and ways to achieve your dreams. With our extraordinarily low tuition for both in-state and out-of-state students, you’ll be able to graduate with very little debt.
150 Ways to Succeed
Choose from more than 150 majors, minors, and combined-degree programs, such as our fast-track MBA program that allows you to use graduate credits toward your undergraduate degree and complete both degrees in a five-year period. Check out our new School of Journalism, with one of the nation’s first courses in news literacy and a Newsroom of the Future. We offer Marine Science and Marine Vertebrate Biology majors for undergraduates, too.
First-Year Freshman Communities
You’ll belong to one of six themed undergraduate colleges and have the benefits of personalized advising, close faculty connections, and first-year seminars with only 20 students per class. Our dynamic first-year program is designed to help you succeed, and it works: our freshman retention rate is 89%.
A Million Ways to Have Fun
With hundreds of clubs and organizations on campus—and the beach, parks, and shopping areas only a short ride away—you won’t have to go far to find fun. Cheer for our 20 Division I Seawolves teams as they run, dunk, and score in our sports complex and 8,300-seat stadium. See international performances in music, theater, dance, and film in our Staller Center for the Arts.
New York, New York
The Long Island Rail Road goes directly from the Stony Brook campus to New York City, so you can simply walk across a field to board the train. Take in all the sights, sounds, style, and sass of the Big Apple. Visit the United Nations, the Statue of Liberty, the Intrepid, the lights of Broadway, or Madame Toussaud’s Wax Museum—all just a train ride away.
Learning and Research Opportunities Galore
Where will your curiosity lead you? Whether your interests are in science, the arts and humanities, the social sciences, business, or elsewhere, our award-winning Undergraduate Research and Creativities (URECA) program will pair you with one of Stony Brook’s faculty researchers for a hands-on learning experience. URECA has produced many Marshall, Goldwater, and Beckman scholars and culminates each spring in a campus-wide celebration of achievements.
A Successful Future
It’s a fact: SB grads earn more. We’re #24 in a list of public colleges with top-earning graduates by Payscale.com. And a new survey shows that more than a third of our recent graduates went on to graduate or professional school—a rate higher than the national average. Our Career Center can help you track down internships and jobs, improve your resume and interview skills, and connect you with vibrant and informative speakers in all fields.
