    Ground Level Ozone Workshop
    9:00 AM ESS 001

Most people do not realize that the Metropolitan area including Long Island has periods of high concentrations of ground level ozone in its air. High concentrations of ground level ozone are hazardous to both plant and animal life including humans. Suffolk County often has the highest or second highest reported concentration of ground level ozone in New York State. At Stony Brook University on March 7 beginning at 9:00 AM we will have presentations by experts in their fields discussing:

    • Why ground level ozone is a problem on Long Island
    • The health effects of breathing ozone
    • How ozone affects plants
    • How the productivity of plants is affected even before symptoms are visible
    • How ozone has affected the productivity of plants on Long Island
After the lectures we will have workshops considering:
    • How you can monitor ozone damage to your plants
    • How to include ground level ozone in the school curricula
You may also wish to visit the "Ground Level Ozone: The Bad Ozone" website.
The Workshop is free and everyone is invited.
