Trail Fix
Date: Tuesday, September 24
Time: 3:30pm - 6:00pm
Location: Benedict Atrium
Description: Are you sick of looking at garbage all around the wooded trails that connect the academic buildings around campus?  Don’t you want to do something about it?  Meet us at the Benedict Atrium at 3:30 PM on Wednesday, September 24 to lend a helping hand.  We will break up into groups and then tackle the trails on campus.  Snacks and water will be supplied for all your hard work – all you have to bring is a good attitude!

Habitat for Humanity
Date: Thursday, October 2
Time: 8:30am – 1:00pm
Location: Shirley, NY (Meet in H-Quad)
Description: The 2008 Habitat for Humanity Stony Brook House is being built in Shirley, New York, for a single mom with 7 children, two of whom have disabilities.  LDS student volunteers will participate in building a home for this deserving Long Island family. For the morning session, check-in is at 8:00am in the Langmuir Lounge. Please be ON TIME and wear comfortable clothing and sneakers.

Go Green for Ankizy
Date: Tuesday, October 7
Time:  6:00 – 8:00pm
Location: Benedict Atrium
Description: Come to the kick-off event for our Recycling Mission for Madagascar! The Madagascar Ankizy Fund (MAF) aims to build schools and clinics in remote areas of Madagascar. It is our mission to raise $400 for the MAF to help improve life for Malagasy children by providing tools for learning and basic health care. If each LDS student collects only 16 recyclable bottles or cans throughout the month, we can easily reach our goal, which is two-fold: we will raise money to donate to a worthy cause while also working to save our planet!

Hunger Banquet
Date: Tuesday, October 21
Time: 7:00pm – 9:00pm
Location: Benedict Atrium
Description: Students will listen to a fascinating and informative presentation on Oxfam America, Fair Trade and Nicaragua.  After the presentation, students will actively participate in a ‘hunger banquet’ to illustrate the true inequalities associated with poverty around the world.  Students will experience and visibly relate to the differences in socioeconomic class and status through participation in the ironically titled “Hunger banquet”.

Leadership is Not Just for CEO’s
Date: Friday, October 24
Time: 4:00pm – 6:00pm
Location: Langmuir Lounge
Description: Leadership is Not Just for CEOs is a leadership development program aimed at showing students how to recognize, apply and present their current leadership skills. The program will focus on the importance of networking and methods of developing leadership skills. Students will participate in an icebreaker, followed by a presentation involving a student panel of approximately ten student leaders from a variety of university programs and organizations. The student panel will discuss how the leadership skills they have gained have transferred to a wide range of personal and professional life skills. The program will end with a Q&A session between the panelists and participants.
