About the College of Human Development

The College of Human Development is dedicated to developing an early and successful academic and social transition to Stony Brook University for students interested in all aspects of the human condition. This includes our evolutionary origins, as well as our biological, social, sexual, political, and cultural history.

Part of the mission of the College of Human Development focuses on creating a strong sense of community among students, faculty, advisors, and staff. This connection is the basis for the College's commitment to communication and support which will allow each student the opportunity to take full advantage of all this research university has to offer. Members of the College of Human Development can conduct research in the state of the art laboratories, attend seminars, roundtables, and conferences hosted by world renowned organizations and scholars, become a member of one of over 250 active clubs and organizations on campus, connect to possible career paths and goals through mentoring and volunteer experience, and interact directly with distinguished faculty members.

The College of Human Development seeks students from all disciplines and interests to become part of a community which seeks to understand, at the most basic level, what it means to be human. Freshman year is the first step in the evolution of a student's undergraduate college career. The College of Human Development will serve as the guide in this process.
