Course Description

The seminar covers various topics under the general scope of the Undergraduate College theme. Required for all first year students.
Prerequisite: Admission to the appropriate Undergraduate College.
1 credit, ABC/U grading.

Goals

To impart a strong sense of academic community
To acquaint first-year students with a full-time tenure-track and tenured faculty members
To provide students with an opportunity to engage directly with an academic topic in a small setting
To allow for experimentation in curriculum design

During the 2007-2008 academic year, Stony Brook University conducted a self-study of our program for first-year undergraduates, First Year Matters (FYM), under the guidance of the Policy Center on the First Year of College.
