This website is meant to be useful to faculty teaching the Undergraduate College 102 seminars. Stony Brook is unique among public research universities in having integrated into the curriculum of all first-year students an academic seminar taught mostly by full-time tenured faculty, more than 120 sections each spring. Our success in offering these seminars is due largely to the generosity of those members of the Stony Brook faculty who see the value to the entire university of establishing close ties between students and faculty members in the first year. 2007 is my third year as a 102 instructor and I am pleased when students from my first 102 class greet me on campus.
Some 102 faculty have taught the seminar before, but most are new to this game. To that end, we have put together on this website a variety of types of information for 102 instructors. We expect the contents of the website to grow, so please come back to it and check every once in a while. Again, remember that 102 is not meant only to provide an academic experience for our students; it is also meant to be enjoyable for all who participate. We hope that this webpage will help in that effort.
