Application to the Scholars for Medicine program requires admission to either the Honors College or WISE. This requires completing both the Common Application and the Stony Brook University Supplement. As part of the application, you will submit two essays--one for the Honors College and an additional one for the Scholars for Medicine program. For your application to be complete, we will also need to receive a copy of your high school transcript, two teacher evaluations, one counselor evaluation, and your SAT scores.

Students in the Scholars for Medicine Program have effectively been admitted to the School of Medicine upon matriculation at the Honors College, allowing them ample time to explore more of the extraordinary opportunities in research and creative activities available at Stony Brook. In return, the Medical School benefits from having superb medical students who have benefited from enriched undergraduate experiences that will eventually make them better physicians. Please keep in mind that the Scholars for Medicine program is a serious commitment, and you should only apply if you are sure that you wish to attend Stony Brook's School of Medicine for four years following your undergraduate studies at Stony Brook.

Minimum academic criteria for consideration for the Scholars for Medicine program include a score of 1350 on the critical reading and math components of the SAT and an unweighted average of 95 (on a 100 point scale) or 3.8 or higher (on a 4.0 scale), and you must complete the additional essay as indicated on the Supplement.

Student Testimonial:

"The Scholars for Medicine program gave me the opportunity to take on new and unexpected challenges during my undergraduate career. Knowing that I had secured a spot at the medical school gave me the confidence to follow my dreams, and the freedom to explore different academic avenues at the University. With the resources that are available through the Scholars for Medicine program, I have easily found opportunities to shadow physicians, participate in research, and volunteer in numerous departments at the hospital. I am very fortunate and honored to have this unique experience. I eagerly await to attend medical school, where I will be working with physicians and researchers who are renowned experts in their fields. Given my positive experience during my undergraduate career, I know that medical school will prove to be equally the same: challenging, fun, and a remarkable experience."
