Tartuffe, Spring 2008
by Moliere
What happens when a "holy" charlatan
Faithfully fools an undiscerning man,
Insinuates himself within his home,
And claims his wife and property his own?
And what playwright would concoct such a thing?
'Tis Moliere whose praises we now sing!
(Although, when this play was quite newly written,
His devout patrons were not quite as smitten.)
Come see the play that scandalized Versailles,
You'll laugh, you'll gasp-you'll be ''Tartuffified!''
