BioDiesel in Stony Brook Buses
The entire University Bus Fleet has been operating on a BioDiesel blend since April of 2005. The BioDiesel blend, a mix of regular diesel fuel and vegetable oil products, offers several advantages. The vegetable component is a renewable resource while the blend produces significantly lower emission levels. Moreover, this initiative helps the University comply with the State's regulatory requirements regarding the use of 'greener' forms of energy. We are in the process of exploring the use of other alternate energy sources including the expansion of the BioDiesel program to a larger portion of the University fleet, the enhancement and redeployment of our existing electric vehicles, and the adoption of Hybrid vehicles.
