Chemistry Solvent Recycling Program RecyclingSustainable Practices

There are two locations on campus in which solvent recovery operations take place. Waste solvent generated from the Ojima group is recycled in the Graduate Chemistry Building, room 742, and waste generated by the Drueckhammer group is recycled in the Graduate Chemistry Building, room 748. Waste solvent is generated in individual laboratories and is managed as hazardous waste at the point of generation until the solvent is to be recycled. At that time, the waste solvent is brought to either room 742 or 748 where it is immediately processed through the recycler. Solvent recycling minimizes hazardous waste generation and disposal costs and reduces the costs to the user in that less new solvent needs to be purchased if waste/used solvent is recycled/reused.
