Freshman Applicants: Please submit only one Supplemental Application:

Applicants using the Common Application should complete the Supplemental Application within the Common Application system.

OR

Applicants using the SUNY Application should complete the Supplemental Application within Stony Brook's SOLAR System (see instructions below).

Deadlines
The Supplemental Application is required by December 31 for fall semester freshman applicants who wish to be considered for Merit Scholarships, Honors College, Women In Science and Engineering, Scholars for Medicine, Engineering Scholars for Medicine, or the Honors Program in Computer Science.

SUNY Applicants - How to Complete the SOLAR Supplemental Application
Within two weeks of submitting the SUNY application for admission to Stony Brook University, you will receive your Stony Brook ID number and a temporary password. You will need both of these when logging into Stony Brook's secure SOLAR System to complete and submit your Supplemental Application. Note: When you login for the first time, you will be prompted to change your password.

Please Note: Stony Brook ID numbers and passwords will not begin to be issued until mid-September for Spring/Fall 2009 applicants.

SUNY Applicants - About the SOLAR Supplemental Application
This application gives you an opportunity to provide us with more information about your individual strengths, talents, and achievements. You will be asked to provide information about:

  • Schools Attended
  • Courses in Progress
  • Honors and Distinctions
  • Special Talents
  • Work Experiences
  • Extracurricular Activities
  • Your Interest in Stony Brook University
  • Academic Interests

You will also be asked to include an essay evaluating a significant experience, achievement, risk you have taken, or ethical dilemma you have faced and it's impact on you. Scholars for Medicine and Engineering Scholars for Medicine applicants are required to submit an additional essay on the topic: Paint a verbal portrait of an ideal physician and tell us about the experiences that you have had which have helped to shape this ideal.

Teacher/Counselor Evaluations

  • One Teacher/Counselor Evaluation is requested of all freshman applicants.

  • Applicants using the Common Application should use the Common Application's Teacher/Counselor Evaluation form.

  • Applicants using the SUNY Application should use this Teacher/Counselor Evaluationpdf.

  • A second Teacher/Counselor Evaluation is required for those who wish to be considered for the Honors College, Women In Science and Engineering, Scholars for Medicine, or Engineering Scholars for Medicine. The deadline to submit all application credentials for these programs is December 31.

  • Applicants to WISE must submit at least one Teacher/Counselor Evaluation from a science or math teacher.
