Led by SUNY New Paltz, the LSAMP program in the mid-Hudson region serves undergraduate students pursuing majors in the sciences, engineering, technology, mathematics and computer science that have traditionally been underrepresented in these majors and career areas.

Overall, our program goals are:

  • To encourage underrepresented students to choose majors in the sciences and technology
  • To provide a range of services to support and assist them as they pursue majors in these areas
  • To facilitate a range of successful transitions: from two-year to four-year institutions, from school to internship to permanent job placements, and from undergraduate to graduate education.

    Professional and peer tutoring in small groups or individually
    Textbook/calculator lending service

    Academic/personal/career
  • Recognition
    Book awards and scholars' awards from $100 to $750 for selected students achieving high GPAs
  • Research
    Mentored undergraduate research program
  • Statewide research/internship opportunities
  • Career guidance
    Assistance in applying for internships/permanent positions/graduate school
  • Enrichment
    Regular meetings, monthly newsletter, field trips

 

To be eligible for AMP, students must

  • Be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident
  • Be a full-time student pursuing a bachelor's degree at New Paltz or pursuing an A.S. degree at a community college
  • Be active in New Paltz/community college AMP activities
