The goal of the University at Albany LSAMP program is to increase the number of historically underrepresented minorities in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics. The program offers students the opportunity to develop the necessary skills that are needed in order to successfully earn a bachelor's degree in STEM fields and continue on to doctoral an study and the professoriate

The Summer Student Research Program exposes qualified undergraduates to a hands-on research experience. Our unique program matches students with faculty from the University community in addition to the surrounding Capital District area. We have partnered with leading research institutions like Albany Medical College, the New York State Department of Health's Wadsworth Center, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, the Stratton VA Medical Center, and our own University at Albany. Students work with leading researchers on cutting-edge scientific research in such areas as cancer and heart disease. Our goal is to provide students with a formal research experience and not a medical or clinical/patient care rotation.

Studies have also shown that a significant research experience is often the single most important factor in a student's decision to pursue post-undergraduate study in the sciences.
