Program Description

Ireland’s rich cultural heritage endured the colonial period and then the more recent post industrial eras as one of the “Celtic Tigers.”  Students will begin their exploration in Galway, then heading to the site of one of the first English Plantations –Kilkenny.  The trip wraps up in Dublin, the capital of this flourishing nation. Through visits to cliffs and castles, cathedrals and tombs, fortresses and museums, mountains and more, students will explore the vibrant history and culture of Ireland. 

Program Highlights
  • Tour the Celtic countryside and mountains, concluding in Dublin.
  • Experience the host country as a group led by a distinguished SBU scholar.
  • Visit places of artistic, cultural, and historic interest.

Courses Offered

Participants must a take a total of 4 credits. 

Students will select ONE of the following:
• HIS 208 Ireland from St. Patrick to the Present (DEC I) – 3 credits
• HIS 392 Topics in European History (DEC I) – 3 credits

All students will register for the following:
• HIS 447 Independent Readings in History – 1 credit 

Health Insurance
International health insurance is included in the Program Fee.

Eligibility

  • Language proficiency is NOT required
  • All undergraduate college students in good academic standing may apply
Cost
  • Administrative Fee: $200
  • Tuition: $220/credit for NY residents, $613/credit for non-residents
  • Program Fee: $2,300  (includes room, 2 meals per day, group excursions, and international health insurance)
  • Airfare: Students are encouraged to book flights early to secure the best fare

  • Applications are due October 1
  • Late applications will be considered at the Program Director’s discretion
