Program Description
Participants will experience French language and culture as students at an international summer school in Montpellier, France.  With a population of 230,000, Montpellier is the dynamic capitol of the Languedoc-Roussillon region located in the south of France on the Mediterranean Sea.  Known for medieval architecture, Montpellier is also a modern city exhibiting a vitality that includes festivals, theater, music, dance, and more.

Program Highlights
  • Guided tour of Montpellier
  • 4 half-day excursions and 3 full-day excursions
  • 4 cultural workshops highlighting traditional dance, music, and cuisine
  • Screenings of French movies each week, swimming at beaches and inland rivers, hiking, cycling, and spelunking (exploring caves)
  • Past excursions have included the following: Nimes/Le Pont-du-Gard, the Camargue region, Arles, Les Baux-de-Provence, Les Cevennes, and the Roquefort cheese cellars


Undergraduate Coursed Offered
Students will take 6 credits of French language and culture fulfilling SBU’s Skill 3 and DEC I.

Living Arrangements
Students will be housed in single-room residence hall accommodations near the city center.

Health Insurance
International health insurance is included in the Program Fee.

Eligibility
  • Language proficiency is NOT required
  • All undergraduates in good academics standing may apply
Cost
  • Application Processing Fee: $60
  • Administrative Fee: $200
  • Tuition costs: $220 per credit for New York residents, $613 per credit for non-residents
  • Program Fee: TBA* (includes housing, two meals per day, group excursions, and international health insurance)
  • Airfare: All participants will fly as a group with the program director. Upon acceptance, students will be given the necessary flight information and will purchase tickets individually. Students are encouraged to book early to secure the best price.

*For reference, the Summer 2011 Program Fee was $2,600. This cost is subject to change. This website will be updated when the Summer 2012 Program Fee becomes available.
