Program Description

Ireland’s rich cultural heritage endured the colonial period and then the more recent post industrial eras as one of the “Celtic Tigers.”  Students will begin their exploration in Galway, then heading to the site of one of the first English Plantations – Kilkenny.  The trip wraps up in Dublin, the capital of this flourishing nation. Through visits to cliffs and castles, cathedrals and tombs, fortresses and museums, mountains and more, students will explore the vibrant history and culture of Ireland. 

Program Highlights

• Tour the Celtic countryside and mountains, concluding in Dublin.
• Experience the host country as a group led by a distinguished SBU scholar.
• Visit places of artistic, cultural, and historic interest.

Courses Offered

All participants will register for 6 total credits.

Students will select ONE of the following courses:
• HIS 208 Ireland from St. Patrick to the Present (DEC I) – 3 credits
• HIS 392 Topics in European History (DEC I) – 3 credits

All students will register for the following course:
• HIS 447 Independent Readings in History – 3 credits

Health Insurance
International health insurance is included in the Program Fee

Eligibility

• Language proficiency is NOT required. 
• All undergraduates in good academic standing may apply.

Cost

• Application Processing Fee: $60
• Administrative Fee: $200
• Tuition costs: $220 per credit for New York residents, $613 per credit for non-residents
• Program Fee: $3,300 (includes housing, two meals per day, group excursions, and international health insurance)
• Airfare: All participants will fly as a group with the program director. Upon acceptance, students will be given the necessary flight information and will purchase tickets individually. Students are encouraged to book early to secure the best price.

• Application deadline extended to May 1.
• Applicants are notified of an admissions decision on a rolling basis, so the sooner one applies, the sooner one can receive a decision!
• Late applications considered at the Program Director’s discretion.
