Program Description

The city of Konstanz is located at the intersection of Germany, Switzerland, and Austria. Situated on the Bodensee (or Lake Konstanz) in the foothills of the Swiss Alps, its unique geography lends itself to outdoor pursuits of all kinds. It is home to the Universität Konstanz where participants will have the opportunity to take German language courses, as well as to fulfill Diversified Education Curriculum (DEC) requirements at one of Germany’s premier research institutions.

Program Highlights
  • Experience international summer school at the Universität Konstanz, one of Germany’s most prestigious institutions of higher education.
  • Take advantage of first-rate athletic facilities, a professional rock-climbing course, and beaches.
  • The city of Konstanz is located in southern Germany near the cities of Zurich, Stuttgart, and Munich.
  • Group excursions include an medieval castle in Meersburg, the Vorarlberg region of Austria, and the state of Liechtenstein.

Undergraduate Coursed Offered
Students will take 6 credits of German language and culture fulfilling SBU’s Skill 3 and DEC I.

Living Arrangements
Participants will be housed in residence halls at the Universität Konstanz.

Health Insurance
International health insurance is included in the Program Fee.

Cost
  • Application Processing Fee: $60
  • Administrative Fee: $200
  • Tuition costs: $220 per credit for New York residents, $613 per credit for non-residents
  • Program Fee: TBA (includes housing, group excursions, and international health insurance)
  • Airfare: All participants will fly as a group. Upon acceptance, students will be given the necessary flight information and will purchase tickets individually. Students are encouraged to book early to secure the best price.

  • Applications are due March 1.

Summer 2012 in Bremen, Germany

Program Type: Group experience led by SBU Staff

Dates: August 8 - August 25, 2012

Program Description

Join us for this collaborative, international experience for women interested in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) at Bremen University. Bremen is a beautiful city-state in northwestern Germany near the North Sea. It is a major port, as well as a center of industry and technology. Bremen University has a reputation of excellence specifically in the areas of industrial engineering, physics, mathematics and geosciences. Students will participate in lectures, presentations, job forums, networking events and courses. The adventure will include an excursion to Hamburg Germany as well.

Program Highlights

  • Be part of the discussion! Meet women from all over the world who are interested in STEM careers!
  • Listen to various professionals discuss how their cultures impact their work and family life balance
  • Learn how to work as part of an international team. The study abroad experience will include experiential learning, lectures and presentations. All classes and lectures will be taught in English at this prestigious German institution.
  • Earn 3 credits for WSE 488

Eligibility

Be a WISE or CEAS student in good academic standing with a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.0.

  • Application Processing Fee: $60
  • Administrative Fee: $200
  • Tuition costs: $220 per credit for New York residents, $613 per credit for non-residents
  • Program Fee: $2,350 (Includes room, two meals per day, group excursions, and international health insurance)
  • Airfare: Flight information will be released to accepted applicants. Students should book flights early to secure the best fare.
