Summer 2014 in Konstanz, Germany

Program Type: International Summer School at one of SBU’s partner universities

Dates: July 31st - August 25th, 2014

Program Description:
The city of Konstanz is located at the intersection of Germany, Switzerland, and Austria. Situated on the Bodensee (or Lake Konstanz) in the foothills of the Swiss Alps, its unique geography lends itself to outdoor pursuits of all kinds. It is home to the Universität Konstanz where participants will have the opportunity to take German language courses, as well as to fulfill Diversified Education Curriculum (DEC) requirements at one of Germany’s premier research institutions.

Program Highlights:

  • Experience international summer school at the Universität Konstanz, one of Germany’s most prestigious institutions of higher education.
  • Take advantage of first-rate athletic facilities, a professional rock-climbing course, and beaches.
  • The city of Konstanz is located in southern Germany near the cities of Zurich, Stuttgart, and Munich.
  • Group excursions include an medieval castle in Meersburg, the Vorarlberg region of Austria, and the state of Liechtenstein.

Undergraduate Coursed Offered:
Students will take 6 credits of German language and culture fulfilling SBU’s Skill 3 and DEC I.

Living Arrangements:
Participants will be housed in residence halls at the Universität Konstanz.

Health Insurance:
International coverage through the SUNY provider, HTH Worldwide, is mandatory and included in the Program Fee. 

Program Costs:

  • $60 Application Processing Fee
  • $200 Administrative Fee (non-refundable)
  • Tuition costs: $245 per credit for New York residents, $742 per credit for non-residents
  • Program Fee: $800 (includes housing, group excursions, and international health insurance)
  • Airfare: All participants will fly as a group. Upon acceptance, students will be given the necessary flight information and will purchase tickets individually. Students are encouraged to book early to secure the best price.
  • *All Fees subject to change

Eligibility:

  • All undergraduate college students in good academic standing (2.0 GPA or higher) may apply.
  • Language proficiency is NOT required.

Application Deadline:

  • *Application deadline has been extended to April 15, 2014*
  • Applicants are notified of an admissions decision on a rolling basis, so the sooner one applies, the sooner one can receive a decision!
  • Late applications considered at the Study Abroad Advisor’s discretion.

Summer 2014 in Berlin

Program Type: International Summer School at one of SBU's partner universities

Dates: July 18th - August 16th, 2014

Program Description:
This summer SBU offers students the opportunity to experience International Summer School at Freie Universität Berlin, one of Germany’s top ranked and most prestigious universities.  Participants will earn six academic credits while immersed in one of the world’s most exciting and cosmopolitan cities known for its history, diverse architecture, museums, contemporary art scene, and universities

Program Highlights:

  • Guided Tour through the Reichstag Building and the Federal Parliament
  • River Boat Tour through Downtown Berlin
  • Weekly movie screening presenting popular and well-known German films
  • Student ID that gives students access to reduced priced meals at the FreieUniversität dining hall, as well as student tickets for sights, museums etc.
  • Access to libraries and computing, and printing facilities on the campus
  • Welcome and farewell buffet

Courses Offered:
Participants will register for 6 credits (two courses) fulfilling several Diversified Education Curriculum (DEC) categories.
