Program Description: To provide students instruction on Spanish language and Culture and encourage the exchange of ideas and inter cultural issues.

Program Costs

  • $60 Application Processing Fee
  • $200 Administrative Fee (non-refundable)
  • Tuition costs: $232 per credit for New York residents, $675 per credit for non-residents
  • $350* Program Fee (includes international health insurance)
    * Program Fee subject to change
  • Other cost paid to host university (room, board, books, etc.)
  • Airfare: Upon acceptance, students will purchase tickets individually. Students are encouraged to book early to secure the best price.

* Costs are estimates for planning purposes of the student and are subject to change at any point.

Eligibility: Basic knowledge of the language is strongly encouraged

  • IAPS may take the opportunity to interview candidates to determine their qualifications for participating and representing Stony Brook University abroad.
  • GPA 3.0

Summer 2013 at the Universidad de Alcalá

Program Description: Alcalá de Henares offers participants a relaxed, college town atmosphere conveniently located near the city of Madrid.  Famed for its history, Alcalá is the birthplace of author Miguel de Cervantes and its city center has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is home to the University of Alcalá de Henares where students will have to opportunity to take Spanish language and culture courses that fulfill major and/or Diversified Education Curriculum requirements.

Program Highlights:

  • Experience international summer school at one of Europe’s oldest and most prestigious universities
  • Immersion in Spanish culture through home stays with families
  • Group excursions to neighboring cities
  • Visits to local museums and historical sites

Courses Offered:

All participants will take a total of 6 credits (2 courses). Course transfer information for SBU students majoring/minoring in Spanish available upon request.

Living Arrangements:
Home stays with Spanish families in Alcalá de Henares.

Health Insurance:
International health insurance is included in the Program Fee.

Eligibility:

  • Language proficiency is NOT required, but some background in Spanish is recommended.
  • All undergraduate and graduate students in good academic standing (2.0 GPA or higher) may apply.

Application Deadline:

  • Application deadline extended to May 1, 2013.
  • Applicants are notified of an admissions decision on a rolling basis, so the sooner one applies, the sooner one can receive a decision!
  • Late applications considered at the Study Abroad Director’s discretion.
