Program Description

Stony Brook University offers student a study abroad experience in Mishima, Japan. This four week total immersion program is hosted by the Mishima campus of Nihon University. Students have the opportunity to live and attend classes under the shadow of Mt. Fuji, the symbol of Japan. One of the lectures from the Mishima campus, a Shingon priest, is a former Stony Brook graduate student.

During the Edo period, Mishima was an important post-town of the 503 kilometer long Tokaido Highroad, which connected Kyoto to Tokyo. Hiroshige Ando, a famous woodblock print artist, depicted Mishima as one of the 53 stages of Tokaido Highroad. In addition to its rich cultural history, Mishima is only one hour from Tokyo by way of the bullet train.

Participants live with a host family

Health Insurance

Stony Brook University offers international health insurance for those who do not have adequate coverage.

Eligibility

All undergraduate college students in good academic standing may apply. Language proficiency is NOT required.

Program and Tuition Fees

Program fees: Approximately $1,800.* Includes housing, board, excursions and local transportaion

* does not include airfare, administrative fees and medical insurance

Undergraduate Tuition costs: $181.00/credit for NY residents; $442.00/credit for out-of-state residents
