Greetings from International Academic Programs & Services! Below you'll find the necessary items to submit for nominations to SBU's Exchange and Fee-Paying programs. All applications must be received from institutions with whom SBU has an exchange agreement and accompanied with a nomination from the home institution.

Application Items Required:

1. Complete online application with Apply Yourself.   The application will require you to upload and complete the following documents:
i) Study Statement
One page, typed Study Statement should be uploaded electronically through Apply yourself.

ii) DS 2019 Certificate of Eligibility 
This should be uploaded electronically. (Download Application for DS2019 form here)

iii) Financial Support Documents
All students must upload financial support documents showing the amount required in the DS 2019 Certificate of Eligibility.  Proof can be in the form of a bank letter or an original bank statement which states your name or your sponsor’s name in English. Documents must be dated within 6 months of term start date.
These documents should be uploaded electronically.

iv) Affidavit of Support (only required if using a sponsor)
The name on the affidavit of support should be the same as the name on the bank letter/statement.  Relationship to student should be indicated and signed by the sponsor.

v) Proof of Income (only required if using a sponsor)
Your sponsor must show proof of income for the current year, which can be the form of an employer letter or income tax return. If sponsor is retired, this too must be stated in the form of a letter.

vi) Passport 
Upload a clear copy of the information page of your passport.

vii) TOEFL (if applicable)
Exchange/Visiting students must have a minimum of 80 IBT or 6.5 IELTS. Upload a clear copy of your unexpired proficiency score.

viii) Home University Transcripts
Upload a clear copy of your home university transcripts.

ix) Stony Brook University Health Form
All students should complete the attached health form and send an attachment via email to mariam.isack@stonybrook.edu. Students should keep the original health form for future reference.
*Note that this can be completed upon arrival through SBU Student Health Services;
however enrollment into courses may be affected.

x) Official notification from the home university must be received for all exchange/visiting nominations. (This can be received via email or letter.)

2. Upon submission of your completed application, International Academic Programs and Services will evaluate your application. You will receive an admission decision via email. If accepted, you will receive your Stony Brook University ID number and additional instructions.

3. Please print and keep a copy of your application for your records.

Deadlines:

  • For Fall intake: March 15
  • For Spring intake: October 15

* There is no application fee for incoming exchange/fee-paying applicants.
