Information for Researchers, Educators, and Sponsors
In the past few decades, educators have become increasingly involved in developing programs that enable recruitment, retention, and success for under-represented minorities doing undergraduate or graduate work in the sciences, technology, engineering or mathematics.
Stony Brook's Information Technologies Department, chaired by Dr. David Ferguson, has been actively involved in this effort, soliciting numerous state and federal and private grants to meet the STEM Smart objectives.
Here are links that describe the need, findings from early studies, and current studies underway that examine the effectiveness of efforts to help under-represented students become successful professionals and role models in these fields.
