Certification Courses

Eligibility:

Everyone may take the PHR/SPHR preparation course, but to qualify to take the PRH/SPRH exam, a candidate must meet the eligibility requirements established by the Society for Human Resource Management:

PHR Eligibility

  • 1 year of demonstrated professional HR experience with a Master's degree or higher
  • 2 years of demonstrated professional HR experience with a Bachelor's degree
  • 4 years of demonstrated professional HR experience with less than a Bachelor's degree

SPHR Eligibility

  • 4 years of demonstrated professional HR experience with a Master's degree or higher
  • 5 years of demonstrated professional HR experience with a Bachelor's degree
  • 7 years of demonstrated professional HR experience with less than a Bachelor's degree

College Credit:

This course is approved for college credit per agreement through Stony Brook University, School of Professional Development and Excelsior College. For more information please call (888) 647-2388.


Testing Window:

The next testing window is May 1, 2012 - June 30, 2012. Those looking to register for the exam must go to http://www.hrci.org. (Exam registration fee not included in course preparation tuition.)


Recertification:

Once you pass the certification exams, you must recertify your credentials every three years through continuing education activities.

Content:

These preparation courses will cover the following 6 modules:

Module 1: Business Management and Strategy
Module 2: Workforce Planning and Employment
Module 3: Human Resource Development
Module 4: Compensation and Benefits
Module 5: Employee and Labor Relations
Module 6: Risk Management

Both courses cover the same material, but one is offered in a standard format and the other is offered in an accelerated format.

Students who successfully complete the preparation course will receive a certificate of completion from SHRM and Stony Brook University.  Successful completion is dependent upon students attending 75% of course hours.

NCE 900 Accelerated Course Preparations
This is a 21-hour accelerated PHR/SPHR preparation course that will earn each passing student 2.1 CEUs. The cost of course materials and sample test are included with the tuition. On the last day of the course, the sample PHR/SPHR examination will be administered.
Program Tuition: $899 (Tuition discounts may apply)
Section A: Wednesdays, 6pm-9pm; February 29; March 7, 14, 21 & 28; April 4 & 11, 2012
Registration Deadline: Wednesday, February 15, 2012

NCE 901 Standard Course Preparations
This is a 36-hour PHR/SPHR preparation course which will earn each passing student 3.6 CEUs. The cost of course materials and sample test are included with the tuition. On the last day of the course, the sample PHR/SPHR examination will be administered.
Program Tuition: $1199 (Tuition discounts may apply)
Section A: Saturdays, 9am - 1pm; February 11, 18 & 25; March 3, 10, 17, 24 & 31; April 14, 2012
Registration Deadline: Friday, January 27, 2012

Unless otherwise specified, all courses are held on the main campus of Stony Brook University.
