Evelyn Holman,About Dr. Holman

Dr. Evelyn Blose Holman, Superintendent of Bay Shore Schools for 17 years, previously served as superintendent of Maryland’s Wicomico County Schools. Holding a BS degree from Pennsylvania’s Indiana State College, a M.Ed. and Ph.D. from the University of Maryland, Dr. Holman taught sixth grade through university level, authored/edited various publications, and served as keynote speaker at numerous local, state and national conferences.

Chosen Maryland Superintendent of the Year and elected President of the Maryland Superintendents’ Association, she represented Maryland at the National Gallery of Art’s 50th Birthday Celebration.

Dr. Holman—three times named one of the Top One Hundred Educational Executives in North America— led Bay Shore Schools and her community to state and national recognition.  Bay Shore received the National School Boards Magna award four times during her tenure. Dr. Holman served on the Middle States Regional Council of the College Board , received the New York State Alliance for Arts Education and the New York State Council of School Superintendents Leadership in Arts Education Award to name a few of her numerous awards. Past president of educational organization such as SCOPE and Phi Delta Kappa (Maryland president and Outstanding Educator award and life membership), she continues speaking at local, state and national conference on behalf of public education.

On leaving the superintendency after 27 years with over 40 years in education, she established the Evelyn Blose Holman Education Foundation to secure, promote and protect Bay Shore’s public school students.

Dr. Holman, a Fulbright China scholar, collects Chinese robes and textiles. Evelyn retired to travel and in the past year, visited Turkey, India, Cuba, France, Spain, Portugal, and England. In November, she visited schools in Russia with American Association of School Administrators.
