SPD Fall 2012 Academic Calendar

This calendar addresses SPD students and SPD courses only. The information does not apply to undergraduates, for graduate students matriculated in the Graduate School or HSC, or for those students who are participating in an off-campus co-hort. This calendar was accurate as of 8/30/12. It is subject to changes and updates.

August

Aug. 27-31, Monday-Friday:

On-campus and all SPD Online classes begin.

Late registration begins; a $50 late fee applies to all students who are not enrolled in at least one course before Aug. 27.

Aug. 29, Wednesday: Senior Citizen Auditing Program registration. Registration takes place in the SBS Building, Room S-102, from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. Visit Senior Auditing for more information.

Aug. 31, Friday (by close of business, 4:00pm): Last day to add yourself to a waitlist for a Fall online course. Reminder: Students who place themselves on a waitlist are responsible for any tuition liability incurred if they are enrolled into the course. Students receive emails from SOLAR once they are enrolled; however, due to potential e-mail delivery problems, students should log into SOLAR and monitor their waitlist status. If students change their intent to enroll, they MUST DROP themselves from the waitlist.

September

Sept. 2, Sunday:

Last day to add SPD Online ten-week classes. All adds must be processed by the close of the business day (4:00 pm).

Last day of waitlist operation for SPD Online courses. Reminder: Students who place themselves on a waitlist are responsible for any tuition liability incurred if they are enrolled into the course.

Last day to drop a class or withdraw from the University without tuition liability. Dropping/withdrawing from classes must be done via the SOLAR System before the close of the business day (4:00 pm). (SPD students are able to drop to zero credits/units via SOLAR.)

Last day to add yourself to a waitlist for a Fall course that meets face-to-face. Reminder: Students who place themselves on a waitlist are responsible for any tuition liability incurred if they are enrolled into the course. Students should monitor their waitlist status using SOLAR. If students change their intent to enroll, they MUST DROP themselves from the waitlist.

Sept. 3, Monday: Labor Day. No classes in session. All offices are closed.

Sept. 4, Tuesday: No classes in session.

Sept. 11, Tuesday:

Last day to drop or withdraw from the University without a "W" (withdraw) recorded on student's record. Tuition liability applies. All drops/withdrawals must be processed by the close of the business day (4:00 pm). After this date, SPD students may continue to withdraw using the SOLAR System until Oct. 26 (exception: See Sept. 18 for SPD Online courses); a "W" (withdraw) will be recorded. Tuition liability applies. (NOTE: SPD Students MUST withdraw themselves using SOLAR; petitions will not be accepted until after the Oct. 26 deadline.)

Last day to swap courses "without a petition." If student reduces credit load, tuition liability will apply. All swaps must be processed by the close of the business day (4:00 pm). Swaps are processed for on-campus courses only (the last day to register for or swap into an online course is Sept. 2).

Sept. 11-18, Tuesday–Tuesday: For swaps between these dates, SPD students must petition the School of Professional Development (SPD). If student reduces credit load after Sept. 2, tuition liability will apply. (A record of "W" will be applied to the student's record. NO petitions for swapping will be processed after Sept. 20.)

Sept. 18, Tuesday:

Last day to drop/withdraw from SPD Online courses. (All other SPD courses, see Oct. 26 entry.) "W"/Withdraw will be recorded. Tuition Liability remains applicable. All drops/withdrawals must be processed by the close of the business day (4:00 pm). After this date, students must petition the SPD Committee on Academic Standing (PDF) to withdraw.

Last day to add on-campus classes (excluding SPD Online courses; see Sept. 2 entry). End of late registration. All changes must be processed by the close of the business day (4:00 pm).

October

Oct. 1, Monday, close of business (4:00 pm):

Deadline for Fall degree and certificate candidates to apply for graduation and appear in the commencement publication. SPD students MUST apply for graduation whether they plan to attend Commencement ceremonies or not. If a student does not apply for graduation, the degree or certificate will NOT be conferred.

Candidates for graduation must apply via the SOLAR System; go to Academic Records>Apply for Graduation. Graduation applications may continue to be submitted via SOLAR until November 12, but the student's name will not appear in the commencement publication. Also, applications received by SPD after the published deadline will not be evaluated until all other candidates for graduation have been processed. This may result in a significant delay. Oct. 26, Friday:. Last day to drop/withdraw from one or all courses (excluding SPD online/EEP courses); "W" will be recorded. Petition is NOT required. Student may drop/withdraw from all courses on the SOLAR System. See Tuition Liability schedule. After this date, students must petition to withdraw. All drops/withdrawals must be processed by the close of the business day (4:00 pm).

November

Nov. 1, Thursday: Last day for removal of "I"/Incomplete grades from the Spring and Summer 2012 terms. After this date, all "I"/Incompletes will revert to "I/F". The "F" is then calculated into the student's GPA.

Nov. 4, Sunday: Last day of SPD Online classes.

Nov. 6, Tuesday (tentative; subject to change): Advance registration tentatively set to begin for Winter and Spring 2013 terms. Course listings and enrollment appointment information will be posted on the SPD website prior to registration.

November 12, Monday: Last day for Fall degree candidates to apply for graduation. Candidates will NOT BE included in Publication (see October 1 deadline). After this date, students must apply in person to the appropriate office.

Nov. 21-25, Wednesday–Sunday: Thanksgiving Break. NO classes in session.

December

Dec. 7, Friday: Last day of classes for courses that are held Mondays through Fridays.

Dec. 8, Saturday: Last day of classes for courses that are held on Saturdays.

Dec. 11-19, Tuesday-Wednesday: Final Exam Week. Finals held for Mon. through Fri. courses.

Dec. 19, Wednesday. End of term; last day of finals.
