Enrollment
Procedures
All students enroll for their courses themselves through the SOLAR
(Student On-Line Access to Records) System. SOLAR allows students to
enroll in courses, place themselves onto waitlists for specific closed
courses, confirm enrollment or course changes, and receive a complete
schedule summary, which includes times and locations.
Once you've been matriculated, you will be sent a Stony Brook ID number in your acceptance letter. Use this number to access the SOLAR website at http://www.stonybrook.edu/solarsystem . This site contains tutorials for new students.
Enrollment Period
The enrollment period begins in November for the Spring, and April for
the summer and fall (exact dates will be posted on the SPD and Registrar
websites). Prior to enrolling, you are required to log onto
the SOLAR System and find your Enrollment Appointment. This
appointment marks the first day and time that you are eligible to enroll.
You can enroll after this time, but not before. You are strongly
encouraged to enroll at your earliest available opportunity for best
course selection.
A NOTE ABOUT SUMMER
Session enrollment
When planning your program, please keep in mind that the Summer
Session is not a full term. There are roughly half as many courses offered
during the Summer as there are during Spring and Fall terms. As course
availability is very limited, students should not plan to enroll in
more than one or two courses.
