POLICIES AND PROCEDURES
SPD students receive advisement either by telephone or in person appointments
(email advisement is also available). To schedule a telephone advisement
appointment, call 631.632.7050, option 1. Telephone appointments are
generally available morning and/or afternoon, Monday through Thursday.
To receive advisement by email, be sure to include your full name
and Stony Brook ID number in the subject and/or body of the email,
in addition to specifically stating your advisement questions. You may
email firstname.lastname@example.org and expect to receive a response within two
business days. (Note: The SPD office is closed Saturday and Sunday.)
Although you may schedule appointments with SPD advisors as often or
as seldom as you wish throughout your program of study, new and continuing
students are individually responsible for meeting program requirements.
Personal Contact Information
Because many of your interactions with Stony Brook faculty and staff take place at a distance, your contact information
must be kept up-to-date. Students are required to notify SPD of any
address, telephone, email, or name changes so that they will continue
to receive registration information, grade reports, and other important
correspondence from the University.
You can update a postal or email address in the SOLAR System.
If you need to process a name change,
please contact us at email@example.com for instructions.
Students taking online courses are also responsible for making their email addresses are listed
correctly in Blackboard. Instructions for changing your email address can be
found in the SPD Online Resource Center (accessible in Blackboard).
Be sure that all of your correspondence contains
your full name and student ID number.
