Delegation from Abdullah Gul University Visits SPD

On Nov 27, Dean Edelson and members of the Senior Staff of SPD met with a visiting delegation of university officials from Abdullah Gul University (AGU) located in Kayseri, Turkey. The mission, led by Secretary General Melih Rustu Calikoglu, identified SPD Stony Brook as a model for Abdullah Gul’s developing curricula in continuing professional education, the focus of their new university.

Three days after the campus vist, Mr. Calikoglu observed Dean Edelson's higher education administration class via web conference. The graduate seminar uses SB Connect to allow distance learning students to participate in a class with their on-campus cohorts in "real-time."

Founded in 2010, AGU will be accepting its first class of students in 2014-2015.
Dean Edelson anticipates an ongoing relationship between Stony Brook and Abdullah Gul, including joint distance education programs, which the delegates identified as a unique strength of SPD.
