Graduate Programs

SPD's Division of Graduate Studies is dedicated to meeting the needs of the working professional. By providing courses at night, on Saturdays, and online, SPD makes it possible for you to pursue part-time graduate study at Stony Brook.

SPD offers seven master's degree, eight advanced graduate certificate and three post-graduate certificate programs. Five of these master's degree programs lead directly to New York State certification and license as a teacher. The three post-graduate certificate programs prepare leaders for careers in educational administration. For descriptions of these programs, visit our Graduate Programs page.

Students can also choose to take courses without being matriculated into a graduate program. For an application, see our Non-natriculated Students information page.

For complete listings and links to all program descriptions, go to the Graduate Programs page.

Computer Training

SPD offers a wide range of non-credit computer training opportunities, from basic courses in productivity applications to certificate programs in web design to intensive program that lead to information technology certification.

For detailed information on all programs, go the Computer Training site.

Career Development

The Division of Career Development offers a wide range of comprehensive, non-credit courses in business and professional skills training. Whether it's a workshop on career re-tooling, or an on-site training series designed specifically for your workgroup, the Division of Career Development has a practical, up-to-date program to meet your educational and career goals and offers its programs in a variety of formats and content areas, including open enrollment courses, seminars, workshops, multi-course certificates, and professional licensing curricula. In addition, Career Development's flexible scheduling can accommodate the busiest of calendars, with courses offered on- and off-site, during the day, in the evening, or on the weekend.

Go to the Career Development website.

Certification and Licensing Workshops

In order to meet the requirements of Chapter 544 New York State Law (1988), which requires many licensed professionals, teachers and school administrators applying on or after January 1, 1991 for the renewal of a license, registration, certificate or limited permit to complete coursework regarding child abuse, substance abuse and school violence, SPD offers three one-session workshops in these subjects at a minimal cost. Opportunities for Seniors

The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at Stony Brook University (OLLI) is an SPD program that is open to all retired and semi-retired individuals who are interested in expanding their intellectual horizons in a university setting. While OLLI is peer-taught, SPD also offers an auditing program that allows seniors to sit in on University courses on a space-available basis.

These programs are described in detail in the Lifelong Learning website.
