Southampton Writers Conference

Master Class with Roger Rosenblatt

July 12-23

rogerThis groundbreaking Master Class looks at the art and craft of writing for every genre and from a rich variety of perspectives. For five lively two-and-a-half hour sessions, acclaimed writer and teacher Roger Rosenblatt, using music and the other arts, broadens and deepens the discussion of all the creative elements of writing, tapping into the highest imaginative capabilities of his students.

Class time is divided in thirds. For the first part, Roger talks on the day’s topic, recordings, film clips and other media. The second third is a conversation with a gifted professional. This summer Roger will speak with Sharon Olds, Brit Bennett, Frederic Tuten, Patricia Marx andNatalie Diaz. Finally, Roger gives the group a prompt, and leads the entire class in finding what is best and most useful about what each student writes.

This Master Class has been overwhelmingly appreciated by beginning writers and established professionals. Students saw the class as inspiring and fun, calling it "wonderful," "insightful," "amazing." One novelist wrote: "He put the most positive spin possible on each class member's remarks as he listened with extraordinary intensity. His class still lingers in my head." Another: "Roger taught me more in five sessions than I had learned in numerous semester-long writing classes."

Join Roger for a rare artistic and intellectual experience. Strengthen your voice. Extend your range. Gain insights you will apply again and again to your own work.

Master Class attendees have access to all morning programming, salons, evening readings and social gatherings throughout the 12 days.
