BIOGRAPHY
Michael Kimmel's books include Changing Men (1987), Men Confront Pornography (1990), Men's Lives (6th edition, 2003), Against the Tide: Profeminist Men in the United States, 1776 - 1990 (1992), The Politics of Manhood (1996), Manhood: A Cultural History (1996), and The Gendered Society (2nd edition, 2003).
He edits Men and Masculinities, an interdisciplinary scholarly journal, and recently co-edited the Handbook of Studies on Men and Masculinities (2004) and the Encyclopedia on Men and Masculinities (2004). The latter was awarded "Best in Reference 2004" by the New York Pubic Library Association.
Currently, he is involved in two book projects. As a Carnegie Scholar, he is researching and writing Angry White Men, a comparative study of the extreme right, White Supremacists, and neo-Nazis in the United States, Britan, and Scandinavia. His other project is Guyland: The Inner World of Young Men, 18 - 27, and is concerned with gender dynamics among young adults.
He consults regularly with the Ministries for Gender Equality in Norway and Sweden, and delivered the International Women's Day lecture at the European Parliament, the Council of Europe, the European Commission, and the European Space Agency. He was the SWS "Feminist lecturer" in 1999. He is the Spokesperson for the National Organization for Men AGainst Sexism (NOMAS) and lectures extensively on campuses and in corporations in the U.S. and abroad.
